BSGcast 3.12.5 – Theory Episode
It’s been a rough wait, thanks to Superbowl Sunday, but in a few short days, we’ve got a fresh episode of BSG coming our way… but since two weeks is too long to wait, we wanted to give some of the under-currents of Battlestar Galactica a bit of focus. The Theories, the speculation, all the things that could be going on behind the scenes. We’ve asked you for your theories and ideas, and you’ll get to see some of them here, and you’ll also get some personal ideas both from Nat and from Matt. Tell us whether you agree or not!

There is nothing Jewish related on the show, not that it’s a problem or anything. What you really should have been talking about was Paganism since that’s what the humans are and if you were to look back in history there’s a distinct mirror between ancient paganism and the uprise of Christanity. If you were going to agrue of the presence of Judism since it is technically a race as well as a religion than you could say that the Sagitarron’s are the Jews which also goes along with racism from the other colonies.

We weren’t arguing it as fact, it was simply a theory that one of our viewers discussed with us that we found interesting to point out because it was different than anything else we heard.
I’m all about the paganism and humans believing in the pantheon of Gods, but we wondered whether that was a bit of a given, so not really a theory to discuss. But yeah I hear you that you could see humans as pagans and the cylons symbolizing Christianity with their ONE GOD. But then there’s also the fact that Hera just REALLY feels like a Jesus-type messiah archetype, which is pretty predominant the in Judeo-Christian faith. If anything, I would say that RDM has chosen elements from paganism (also an offensive term that that surfaced with modern Western religions) as well as Judeo-Christianity to create this controversial universe.
Interesting theory about the Saggitaron’s being Jews though.

Oh, it’s just that my Dad is polytheistic, and the Christians used it as a derogatory term, historically. It’s used pretty commonly with no real regard for its potential connotations. Not a big deal, but I thought I’d mention it

Paganism doesn’t only refer to polythesim.
Anyway, I’m sorry I didn’t say this sooner rather an just be a pest. I like show. It’s a lot more interesting than the large amount of podcast people make about the show.

First, thank you for mentioning my theory on your show.
A comment on disqualifying Cottle as a Cylon. He was the one who said it was a cylon disease, and that their was no cure. It’s wholly possible, if he was a cylon, that he was lying. Of even if everything he said was true, he said that with regular treatment no symptoms would show. Anyone think we’re going to see a scene of Cottle secretly shooting up?
I don’t believe he’s a Cylon, since they’ve shown absolutely no ability at medicine at all. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with Hera when Sharon, who’s barely been around humans, did it with a touch. They made zero progress on the disease from the beacon, and Cottle figured out what it was in minutes.
Which leads me to a thought inspired by Matt. Even if they did get the DNA, how did they create perfect human bodies? They don’t have the medical expertise to figure out how to blow their noses. Who made several thousand perfect copies of twelve different models?

I also don’t see the fleet as symbolizing Jews to the Cylon Christian. Ancient Christians wanted everybody to believe that Jesus was Lord, not only Jews. Recall it was the polytheistic ancient Romans that were feeding Christians to the lions after all.

First: Love your show! Just saw all “epsidoes” and I want to add some thing to the scales when you were discussing the 12 Colonies/Cylons. Jim Stevenson wrote about some of this on our website and had some amazing analysis on something else, the use of the pentagon (or the number 5) on the episodes. Now this was already some weeks ago and the chain of events have shown he was indeed right on some things, but it might be interesting for you to read and maybe discuss as well: The Use of the Pentagon in Battlestar Galactica.

Interesting hearing you guys talk about Leoban and how he’s one of the most religious. I’m currently re watching series 3 in the UK and in “Torn” Six says to Baltar that Leoban belives the hybrids are communicating with God but everyone else think their just mad. I think we’re see and hear a lot more from Leoban in the future…

Personally I don’t think the theory is that far off the mark. Or least not far off from where I have speculated.
Perhaps the “Gods” aren’t “Gods” in the traditional sense. Instead, these were people of highly/higher advanced intelligence.
What if Starbuck is a direct link/descendant to those believed to be gods? What if Hera isn’t the “messiah”? (which I don’t believe she is) What if it’s Starbuck?
…I’m just sayin.

First off I would like to compliment you on your mini-segments about BSG. They are very enjoyable. Secondly, I was hoping to throw a comment out there about D’Anna in general. Were you at all thrown by the Oracle (played by Amanda Plummer) at the beginning of the season? It appeared as if she appeared out of nowhere, with no back story or validity as an oracle. I think there could have been a good subplot where she gives info to the human population as well. Anyways, I just recently had a theory that she seemed like a good fit for one of the final five. She is one of the few people that D’Anna had a true interaction with on New Caprica. Also, she fits in with the rest of the cylons in their interesting view on God and their inexplicable connections with the Almighty. Also, her foretelling of future events makes her a good candidate as well. I think that Amanda Plummer would be a great addition to the show as I believe she is a remarkable actress (probably best known for her memorable roll as one of the diner robbers in Pulp Fiction). Also, after a her small initial appearance in “Precipice,” she could comeback in a later episode similarly to how most of the other cylon characters have made a return. Anyways, it would be nice to hear some input, not necessarily on the show, but maybe in a blog posting or an email response. Thanks and I am eager to see your future segments.

We’ve both been pretty weirded out by the one appearance of that Oracle as well… it looks like this week Starbuck visits another oracle, dressed just about identically to the way Amanda Plummer’s oracle was… so hopefully they didn’t have to recast her, because that would be disappointing. But we are hoping that D’Anna’s Oracle has more significance than just one cameo!

Amanda’s theory was kind of out there; it isn’t Judaism vs Christianity at all it’s monotheism vs polytheism.
*****Caprica-Six did not shield Baltar from “a nuclear blast” that would be impossible. Notice, that there’s a delay of maybe 30 seconds between when the bomb flash goes off and when Baltar’s house is destroyed: he was no where near the immediate impact site. When nukes go off they create an air shock wave which does damage for miles around. I mean, Caprica-City got nuked….Baltar’s house is out in the countryside on a lake. We’ve got examples of this type of thing from Hiroshima and stuff of people surviving their houses destroyed: Baltar didn’t “miraculously survive getting “Vaporized” by Six’s body”…..his house wasn’t near the fireball. What happened was that the air shockwave is still pretty damaging, throwing debris at the house, etc. and Caprica-Six was shielding Baltar from the shattering glass of his house’s windows; they killed her, but she shielded him from the breaking glass.
—–>Katee Sackhoff has said many times, since the series began, that out of all of the cast members, she alone was approached by the producers and flat out told “you are officially not a Cylon”.
I think your zodiac thing, though, was a bit of a stretch; Sharon has nothing to do with Gemeni. She’s (pretending to be) an Aerelon. The archetypes don’t fit. “Leoben” based only on the name is a stretch I think. The colonies don’t really match up personality-wise with the zodiac symbols.
What are the archetypes? I haven’t figured them all out, but Six is “The Seductress”, Leoben is “The Zealot”, Doral is “The Everyman”, etc. etc.
The 12 Lords didn’t “Cast out” Man like Man cast out the Cylons: in a deleted scene from “Fragged” Roslin explains that the Sacred Scrolls actually say that the war between the Gods got so bad, that at the end, humanity CHOSE to leave to escape the cataclysm. Of course, the Sacred Scrolls could be trying to hide the truth, but we don’t know…..
They can make DNA from scratch. So far it can only be done with viruses, but they can make DNA from basic nucleotides. The thing is that the human body IS already a machine, if a bio-chemical one. And it’s got its own blueprints. The Cylons know what a human is “supposed” to look like, so just through a lot of trial and error and experimenting in bio-mechanics, they were able to develop “machines” so advanced that they blurred the line between machine and organic; a biological cell is by itself little more than a bio-chemical machine; they just got good at manipulating that stuff. The DNA didn’t need to come “From” anywhere per se.
Nat’s theory doesn’t make too much sense; it assumes the presense of a God in the story. Yes, some have theorized various things along the lines of that the Cylons become new Gods create new humans create new Cylons etc. etc. etc., personally I dont’ believe it though, beyond a basic cycle of Mankind destroying itself fleeing to a new planet then rising from the ashes.

I hope this doesn’t get posted 3 times or anything. It just wouldn’t post for some reason.
Part 1 of my theory, part 2 to come. (Don’t worry I’m not crazy just very passionate in awakening)
If you look throughout earth history there are 12 tribes of Israel,
12 signs of the zodiac in European culture and in Chinese culture,
12 chakras of the human body,
12 strands of DNA.
However in Egyptian mythology it goes back even farther than some cultures… well not necessarily back farther but they knew stuff that some other cultures may have not. Ancient knowledge passed onto them by 12 ancients from Atlantis. (The great ennead Horus, Set, Thoth, Khnum, Hathor, Sobek, Ra, Amon, Ptah, Anubis, Osiris and Isis ) However some believe that the daughter of Thoth (the 13th) went to Peru instead of Egypt.
The Egyptians believed in 13 chakras. The 13th above the head in the aura.
Many ancient cultures especially the Mayan culture believe that this cycle (or this world) will end on December 21 2012 and we will enter the 5th world. “Not an end but a beginning.” However the effects of this change will be felt or the world will really end on Feb 18 in 2013.
The changes happen twice every 26000 years. (every 13000 years) It is called the precessions of the equinoxes. “Transformation is the goal.”
Many people believe that everything has happened before and everything will happen again. Only on earth it’s slightly different than the show in that they believe that everything has happened before and everything will happen again on a higher octave until the story has resolved itself. Some may move through the octaves before others.
In Battlestar Galactica the 12 lords of Kobol created the human race who became 13 tribes. After human sacrifice and violence the 13 tribes left Kobol. 12 tribes went to the colonies and one tribe… the 13th tribe went the other direction, to Earth. Then the 12 colonies created Cylons that evolved into organic bodies who created 12 models to represent themselves.
(The final 5 models may represent the 5th world, or helping humanity to enter the 5th world. As they are helping the human race to reach Earth.) In BSG history there were 5 pillars of the temple for the 5 priests devoted to the one who’s name cannot be spoken. The 5 priests who created the temple of 5 on the alge planet so that in the future number 3 (d’anna biers) could look through the eye of Jupiter (the eye of god) and see the faces of the final 5. However it could have been that they eye of Jupiter opened a doorway to allow the chosen ones to see their faces. Six, Baltar, Hera, Athena and Laura in their dreams. Now it stands to reason that each lord of Kobol organized the humans into tribes each after their own making. If this is true then it is secretly suggesting that if there are 13 tribes of humans there must be a 13th lord of Kobol. (However some have said that only 9 lords have been mentioned but 12 are implied. Leaving a mysterious 13th)
Now if you want to get even deeper, almost everything in this show somehow parallels the Emerald Tablets of Thoth. (The Atlantean) It would take me too long in this post to show every single parallel between the Emerald tablets of Thoth and BSG you’d need to read them for yourself. So I will only show a few for now. However I have no doubt anyone reading the tablets will see the similarities and connections between the two. Here are a few examples.

That god literally speaks to us through her…. She is the baseship in a very real sense. She experiences life very differently than we do Gaius. She swims in the heavens, laughs at stars, breaths in cosmic dust. Maybe Leoben is right, maybe she does see god.”
Then in Rapture D’anna said “to know the face of god is to know madness, the hybrid has looked into the space between life and death and seen things we cannot conceive of but has been driven mad as a result.” Suggesting the hybrids consciousness spans space and time.

Like the lords of Kobol who thought themselves as gods yet they were sacrificing humans.

This sounds very similar to the hybrids. When six was explaining to Baltar what the Hybrid is she said “She’s aware of everything aboard… The ones you know as leoben believe that every word out of her mouth means something. That god literally speaks to us through her…. She is the baseship in a very real sense. She experiences life very differently than we do Gaius. She swims in the heavens, laughs at stars, breaths in cosmic dust. Maybe Leoben is right, maybe she does see god.”
Then in Rapture D’anna said “to know the face of god is to know madness, the hybrid has looked into the space between life and death and seen things we cannot conceive of but has been driven mad as a result.” Suggesting the hybrids consciousness spans space and time.

The hybrids jump the ships in an orgasmic call of power. They also see the hearts of those around them. The old man hybrid in Razor said. “I see them all, 7 now 6 self described machines without sin, yet in time it is sin that will consume them.” Suggesting he can see their hearts have turned dark even though they believe themselves to be holy. Like the lords of Kobol who thought themselves as gods yet they were sacrificing humans.

Wow, Kristy! That is some seriously researched and involved theorizing you’ve got going on there… I like it! You should put some of this up on the BSGcast for “Six of One” to make all of your hard thinking eligible for the Alienware goodies!

Hello,
It’s my first time here and i’m a new fan to the show. It’s a new show in my cables channel in my country. I hope I won’t do too much english mistakes….
First,the jews-christians theory – the jews were the first to believe in one god, like the cylons in their present time.
Second, I believe that the “12″ comes from the 12 hebrew tribes that later became the 12 tribes of israel and their journy to the promise land (ISRAEL). By the way, there was a tribe that split and became the 13 tribe that left the other tribes and went to the lands of Gilad in nower days jordan-syria (remind me the 13 tribe that went to earth…:)).
