BSGcast LIVE: INTERVIEW with Michael Hogan

Matt gets the chance to chat with the actor behind Galactica’s X.O. Colonel Saul Tigh, Michael Hogan. He talks about being Canadian, his acting career, attending conventions and how much he wants to win the cPanel Flat Panel HDTV we’re giving away! For a character that’s so angry and bitter, the actor sure is a delightful dude! But then again, he DOES live in Canada, so being in Los Angeles in the middle of January puts a smile on any of our faces… even Saul Tigh’s! :)

This is the fifth and FINAL episode in the cPanel Flat Panel Giveaway!! So watch what Michael and Matt chat about, and give us your opinion, because at the end of January we’ll be choosing the best one on each of the FIVE LIVE BSGcast and randomly selecting one of those five to win a 32″ LCD TV courtesy of cPanel, the Leading Web Control Panel!

I always sort of assumed Michael Hogan would be a nice fellow. Even though Tigh is a bitter old man, it’s nice to see some of Michael Hogan’s warmth come through in his character. During this last episode for example, seeing his child and uttering the line “I need a drink.” As well as the exchange between Tigh and Adama after Zarek’s ‘interrogation.’ That made me smile, Tigh never makes me smile. It’s a nice change of pace considering all that’s happened.

  2. Cdr. Allen Hohensee Says:

Having a chance to meet Mr. Hogan and enjoying his company give me as an X.O. in a Fan club. I very much enjoyed his company, the conversations I had the opportunity to enjoy.

Michael Hogan has always made decisions on the show that I would have been put into his position. Granted there would be slight variance but that’s normal.

In my honest Opinion the character Colonel Tigh, and the Actor are usually both the same person. Everyone has a bad side and everyone has a good side. As many people had the chance to meet Mr. Hogan at the Frak Party and the persons that met at the Auction. He will be an actor that I will be making every effort to enjoy for the remainder of his long career.

  3. Wacko Says:

I’ve been telling people about the joys of dragoncon for years, and no one seems to understand until they attend. Rock concerts and sporting events may be as intense, but only for 2 or 3 hours at at time, Dragoncon goes for 5 days strait, go and you wont regret it.

  4. jinx Says:

The old comic-book freak in me cringed every time Michael rubbed his hand on the cover of the comic book or rolled the edge of the cover. “The fingerprints! The creases!” It was slow torture. I couldn’t pull my eyes away from it. I was one of those people who, if I could be persuaded to let someone look at one of my books (comic or novel) I would stand over their shoulder and watch to make sure they didn’t need to be smacked upside the head with a rock. Textbooks, even.

Every interview I’ve seen with Michael has revealed him to be a very down to earth, humble, and good natured guy. I seem to recall that he was very angry when he found out that Tigh was a cylon, but he has to have been relieved that it did nothing to change the character’s fundamental nature – just added that dynamic of “it turns out I’m the very thing I’ve hated most in this world – but I refuse to let it change who I’ve chosen to be.” I think that made the character of Saul Tigh even stronger than it had been. I hope Michael was able to get to the point where he enjoyed the way the story unfolded – because even if he hated every moment of it he still did an amazing job of making Saul a very human character, cylon or not. Saul perhaps single-handedly shattered the idea of cylons as nothing but machines. Sure, there was a gradual humanizing of them all through third season, but in Saul we finally hit the threshold of “this supposed machine is more human than *I* am.” Then again, I’m not a very good measure of normal humanity.

I would have loved to bid on that bottle. Tigh has gone over time from being one of my least favorite characters to, perhaps, my favorite, while former favorites have been diminished. Part of it is the material they’re given to work with, but part of it is the intensity and honesty the actor brings to the role. Michael brought both – and though he’s completely unlike Saul Tigh there’s never been a point he failed to make that character living, breathing (if frequently sloshed), and believable.

  5. SMD Says:

I have to admit that it’s somewhat strange to see actors as actors and not the characters they play on television. I guess after watching for the last four years worth (I didn’t watch BSG to start; actually thought it was crap until I actually started watching and realizing that it’s by far one of the best shows ever) has sort of drilled Hogan into my head as Tigh. Hogan seems like a fantastic fellow to work with, based on this interview. He doesn’t seem like an arse like some actors.

And I have to say that after seeing this interview I have a lot more respect for Hogan as an actor. Seeing the differences between how he plays Tigh and who he is in real life really makes firm the amazing job he does as Tigh. Tigh is one of those characters that I started out loving because I hated him. He’s this bitter old man who drinks too much, is oblivious to certain aspects of reality because of it, and makes terrible decisions as a C.O. Even when he was part of the resistance on New Caprica I had that love/hate relationship, although less so because you had to really respect the character. That was a changing point, I think, for me. Tigh evolved, became this character that you hated, but you knew was necessary. And when he became a cylon it was even more shattering, because you had to imagine what it would be like to spend your life hating cylons, hating them so much you could puke, and then finding out that you’re one of them. And you could really see the wear and tear on his character as time went on.

That aspect of the show will likely be in my research project. I’m working on a project discussing the dichotomy of the human/’other’ (robot, alien, etc.) as an undergrad and using BSG as part of it (and some other stuff like Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, etc.). Tigh’s character will certainly play a significant role in the paper.

Anyway, I’m off topic. The interview was great. Too bad it was so short. In any case, I hope the auction goes or went well and keep up the good work.

  6. DarthRazorback Says:

Did you say that Tigh wasn’t critical until the end of season 3? For the first time watching these BSGCast shows, I think Matt has lost his frakin’ mind.

Anyway, Hogan has been my favorite actor on BSG since pretty much the beginning. I have seen very few interviews with him so this was awesome. Plus, his answers are really insightful and funny. I think it is interesting that he is not the only person to reference Galaxy Quest when talking about having a fear of conventions.

    Favorite quotes about DragonCon:

“We rocked… I mean, I am an old man, so I rocked in my own limited way…”

“And I’ve never been with that number of people, boogieing so hard… except at a rock concert or sporting event…”

“… with that amount of party ammunition. And at DragonCon, it was just a full-tilt boogie…”

“[This might] be my last interview judging by the way it is going.”

    Other favorite quotes:

“That’s not a kiss and a hug, that’s my rank.”

“(In Tigh’s voice) Frak ‘em all! (In his own voice) I mean that too.”

“I’ve been deluged by fans. Deluged.”

“Cut. Yeah… nnnnnext.” (or I think that is what he said)

  7. Moridin Says:

    Great interview! Love Saul Tigh!

  8. Shauna Says:

Michael Hogan is so opposite the crusty Saul Tigh that the role was perfect for him. He is a very gentle man with a great wit and self-depreciating humor.

If the commander of a ship is like a god, then the XO is the high priest – making sure that everything is done according to the Old Man’s wishes. The XO takes care of all the details so the commander can focus on the overall mission.

Since coming out as a Cylon, Saul’s behavior has softened. Michael is starting to come through. That was very clear when he was in sickbay looking at the ultrasound of his baby. Saul/Michael was absolutely mesmerized by the wonder of it. The old XO Tigh would have said, “Frak it!” and walked away into a bottle. It would not surprise me if Saul drinks a lot less and stands up for what is right a lot more. Now he has something to live for – something to fight for.

Saul Tigh and I share something in common – a shattered closet. He came out as Cylon. I came out as transgendered. Both worlds are permanently altered. The same, yet irrevocably different.

Now is when he will find out who his true friends are. Now comes the hatred and discrimination because of being Cylon.

This is where and why Saul Tigh has softened, yet is growing a backbone. He sees now from the other side of the look glass and realizes that the mutual hatreds are wrong. He will do something about it because it is the right thing to do.

That is how Michael Hogan comes across – quiet & gentle. Still, a man who will stand up for what is right.

I wonder if the Final Five will be the ones that mediate a permanent peace between Cylons and humans. Who better than someone who has been on both sides of the looking glass?

  9. RazorBlade79 Says:

Very cool interview, really enjoyed it!

  10. Britt Says:

Michael Hogan is one of the engines that makes Galactica work. He is largely unsung when compared with the press given EJO, or the kind of fan worship shown to Tricia Helfer. But week in and week out, Saul Tigh has been one of the characters that gave the show heft and feeling. Often my favorite scenes or lines belong to Hogan. I hope we are all fortunate enough to see many more performances by this fine actor. Thanks for the interview!

  11. Neosaturn Says:

Interview with a CYLON :) or maybe Interview with a drunk CYLON *lol*

  12. thee_immortal_one Says:

Maybe his feelings on the show (not clinging but has let go) is the harbenger of death for the “galacti-verse”.
Don’t get me wronge, I am not trying to be negative. I am only analyzing what I see. The end of the series is intended to answer questions. So why a Caprica series?

Sometimes things come to completion and it is time to move on. Hogan gives off this vibe. When your answers are gotten then why search on. The old Galactica came to a premature end. The 1980 follow-up actually killed that telling of the story since it answered all the questions (Timeline of series against earth timeline, Will the cylons menance earth). The old franchise ended and the new one made significant changes to ensure it was a new story. When the series ends then it will be time to move on and that does not bode well for Caprica. Granted it may delve into other issues but the main issues will be solved…
What happens when man times to become god/gods and create their own selves?
Do the old religions survive when man duplicates the abilities of the old god/gods?
Does survival outway all considerations when it comes to deciding who is or isn’t an ally?
Given the chance, will man ever create artifical women who are not blonde?

These questions were asked and answered.

P.S. I was hoping the fifth cylon was Jessica Simpson. She would be harmless and the human race would have no trouble hybridizing all frak’in night long.

  13. Sam Says:

    Funny interview, thanks. :)

  14. Brad Mc Says:

As someone who grew up in Northern Ontario, in the same towns as Michael Hogan, I can say with some certainty that he is a very down to earth gentleman. Its a northern trait! ;)

His depiction of Colonel Ty has been a great source of entertainment for me while watching BSG over the years. Having served in the Canadian Forces – Algonquin Regiment – in Northern Ontario, I could fully appreciate the way in which he showed Ty grow from a somewhat awkward rusty officer in to a competent XO (or 2IC as we call them here in Canada), and beyond! It was believable, and a very fun ride to watch!

I sincerely look forward to seeing him in the rest of the Battlestar Galactica series, and to where ever else his future endeavours take him (perhaps I could be so fortunate to hire him one day!). It will always be a pleasure!

Thank you, Matt, for this enjoyable interview.

    Best regards,
    Brad

  15. SpecialDestiny Says:

Meeting Michael Hogan at DragonCon was one of the highlights!

A particular standout moment: when he was at panel, confronted with a fan in full Saul Tigh mode (voice and uniform down to the last detail, even shaved head!). Not only was his reaction priceless, but also his gamely agreeing to the fan’s request to get into character while on stage and yell at him as Saul Tigh would. We all got to see him transform from a genuinely affable guy in real life to the crusty, intense, larger than life XO. And within seconds he changed back to someone who gives warm hugs to fans, expressing true surprise that people would come all this way to meet him. Wonderful actor, wonderful human being.

I agree with DarthRazorback (hi by the way! :D ) Tigh’s been a critical part of the show since the very beginning. Love him or hate him, he’s undeniably fascinating to watch!

    Thanks for the interview!

  16. chessykat Says:

  17. FinnishFan Says:

Tigh’s character not so important??? He’s the salt of the show. “And just for that… you have to skip the next round”, is what the XO would have said. But other than that, thanks for the great interview. For me it showed a new side of the Michael Hogan.

The best part of the interview was when Matt started talking about the TV (1.10s). Hogan begun to turn his head like an frakking owl: ” I… I might win that?” I haven’t laughed like that for days…

But seriously, Michael Hogan is a great man and a great actor. Thank’s again for the interview!

  18. Ciel Says:

Tigh and Hogan are the raddest.

  19. Grey Says:

Wow, what a wonderful interview! Michael Hogan comes across as a very kind and dedicated actor. It’s great to hear how much he enjoyed DragonCon, and the BSG fandom in general. The actors all give so much of themselves to the show, it’s nice to see the fans give them a little joy in return!

As others have said, I think Tigh’s character has been central from the very beginning. He has always been a deeply humanizing force on the show: Tigh is the one who can’t always keep it together, no matter how much he wants to; the one who really *isn’t* any good at command, but slowly becomes a capable leader despite his own doubts; the one who resents Starbuck and Roslin, yet learns to respect them over time. And he is asked to make the most difficult decisions on New Caprica, and *then* is forced to grow past them once the occupation is over. Throughout it all, he shows a surprising amount of warmth toward others, particularly Adama and Ellen — he never quite loses that last spark of humanity, not even when he deliberately tries to extinguish it after New Caprica. In a lot of ways, I think Saul Tigh is the character the viewer identifies with during many of the major events aboard Galactica.

In a counter-intuitive twist, he has become an even more human character since becoming the de facto leader of the Final Five Cylons. The scene in which he finally tells Adama that he is a Cylon actually made my cry a little, because he was *so happy*. Even though admitting it probably meant his own death, the most terrible thing in his life had suddenly become wonderful to him, simply because it allowed him to save the fleet. As he’d once said: that’s the man Saul Tigh wanted to be, and that’s the man he’ll be until the day he dies.

“That’s not a kiss and a hug, that’s my rank”. That really says it all!

  20. BSGcast Says:

@FinnishFan Hahaha… yeah it was all I could do in the middle of the cPanel Flatpanel bit not to burst out laughing when I saw his erratic head turning out of the corner of my eye! Hogan’s a hilarious physical performer… I’m so glad I can watch it from two camera angles now!

    ~Matt

  21. Gatedialer Says:

Wow, this was a great interview! I do not recall seeing such an interview with Michael Hogan that left me thinking “wow, what a down to earth dude”

  22. Gaia Says:

This was great. I have such a crush on Michael Hogan, like seriously. And to see him do this interview was a great treat. His yearning of that television was hysterical. And What I wouldn’t give for that bottle…and yes it may be his rank, but a girl can dream…of hugs and kisses from Saul Tigh. :D

The best part of this interview was not Michael Hogan though. It was the lady with the gray hair who came in a little over halfway through, sat down, leaned on the chair in front of her, and stared at the Hogan longingly. She was clearly the best part.

    “Frak them all.”

  23. Ruby Says:

After seeing this interview, I marvel at what a great actor Hogan is.

  24. claynferno Says:

Hogan was fraking cool, I appreciate his non-sentimentality, as he is just an actor. That being said, I would have stuffed his eyepatch in my pocket on the last day of shooting if I were him!

  25. neile Says:

did you really just tell michael hogan that his character wasn’t important until it was revealed he was a cylon? jeez, what the hell kind of question is that!?

  26. Jim Says:

Now before I forget like I did on the last interview. My kudos to Admiral Adalla whom I have seen in so many of these BSG cast videos. Way to get representing BSG Pilots.
Now onto the main topic. I just can’t believe the analogy to Galaxy Quest. I think I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that one. I have so wondered how the actors feel about doing the conventions after that movie came out. I’m glad he just came out with it.
Another kudos to Mr. Hogan with his mention of our military. That meant more to me than anything else I could have dreamed of hearing from anyone on this show. Matt and Nat know I am retired Army and how that hits me close to my heart. If you can pass this on to him tell him how I thank him for that mention and it brings him up a few notches in my eye.
I also loved his term of “Party Ammo” what a classic way of saying booze. LOL I wish him luck on the TV as well. I know there are a lot of people on here making some great comments and he is in for some serious competition. I think the only thing he could do is tell us what is coming up to win it. ;) By the way that TV would look great in the firehouse. (You know I’m kidding right?)
It was a fine interview and I really got a kick out of it he is a great person to interview mainly because he is so down to earth it is not even funny. I also have been enjoying the pictures people have taken of him during the frack party. He looks like he truly can “boogie” down real well for an “old man”. This and the Richard Hatch interviews are my favorite ones so far.

  27. Adalla Says:

Jim, I actually wasnt present at this interview. I dont know how in the world I missed it, but I did, but I was in many of the BSG casts done that weekend for sure :) I think you might be confusing me for Cmdr. Hohensee of the Colonial Defense Forces who also wore a custom T-shirt representing their fan club/site :)

What a fantastic interview though. Michael Hogan was the most friendly, most down to earth, most hilarious, warmest person that I met that weekend. It was a true honor, and I’ll forever be his fan.

I also am glad that he enjoyed DragonCon and participated in this Frak Party, and I truly hope that we will be able to meet him and see him at many many more conventions and frak parties in the years to come.

Battlestar is about to end on screen, but it will live forever in the hearts of the millions of fans who’s lives have been changed forever by this incredible show and by the incredible people who have made it possible.

    So Say We All!

    Adalla

  28. Nirgal Says:

Definitely seems down to earth and very much a professional. Loved the “Frak em all”.

  29. Nicholas Says:

    Michael Hogan: Surprisingly likable.

I’m shocked he didn’t take Saul’s eye patch. Whoever got their hands on that is lucky…and a little disturbed.

  30. Treknologist Says:

    I can has plasma?

  31. Pavlov's God Says:

I went into watching the “re-imagined” BSG as curious but at the same time skeptical – so many remakes of old movies and TV show were coming out and most were terrible, the rest were just bad. Being about 8 when the original came out , I was a huge fan of the show and they were changing something sacred from my youth (and like many things in our youth – it is better remembered than it actually was) But when Michael Hogan’s Tigh walked down the corridor of Galactia and pulls out a flask before going in the the CIC in the first minute of the new BSG – I was sold. I knew it wasn’t another cheap ripoff but the show had actual real life, 3 dimensional, flawed characters – something I didn’t remember from the original BSG. In fact our of all the characters in the Mini, I think his was the most flawed. If I was an actor I think Tigh would be the most challenging person to be because he has all these negative traits (a drunk, reckless, easily manipulated) but at the say time he has a number of positive traits (loyal, dedicated to his ship and service etc.) Finding that right balance is a testament to how good Michael is.

And I certainly don’t fault him for being less interested in the BSG universe as I am. We expect the stars of shows to know just as much about the show and be just as passionate about the show as we are but this is a job to them. They get paid and then move on to other shows. And he’s just great in BSG and I couldn’t imagine the show without him so we’ll forgive him for not wanting a viper in his living room. I do however hope that the stars of BSG get sent into space by a race of aliens who build and exact replica of the Galactica. They then save the earth from evil aliens and crashland the Galactica into a panel discussion at Comicon where they receive a standing ovation. Sadly, in the process they also kill thousands in the San Diego area. Sounds like a good movie idea.

  32. Brian Says:

Very nice interview. I wasn’t expecting a fanatic, due to many sources of information describing him as an actor who believes in research and takes his job very seriously. I applaud his work ethic and his “down-to-earth” nature. I continue to love the character of Saul Tigh, and what Hogan brings to the show. He has even surpassed Adama as the character who is the most deeply flawed and deeply human. That is, of course, why he made the perfect cylon. The man who was the biggest toaster-hater in the fleet is a cylon. He killed his wife and dozens of others because they collaborated with cylons, and he faught cylons in two wars….and he is the very thing he has spent a lifetime hating. What could be more tragic, more ironic, and more genious? He remains ever loyal, and remains as human as everyone else. I think Hogan has captured exactly the essence of the character, and just nails it every time, whether or not he continued to disagree violently with the nature of his character. That character should be, and is, the reason why cylons and humans are one and the same. He is Saul, no more or less. He simply refuses to let this revelation change him, and in reality, it never made any difference what he was. Humanity and her children will never be free of each other, and Saul Tigh will continue to be that reminder.

You need not be so nervous about interviews, Mr. Hogan. Some of us simply want that Flatscreen, just like you. :P

  33. Kittenbiscuits Says:

Michael Hogan is such an amazing person. I had the privilege of interviewing him at Dragon*Con (along with 2 of my friends who run bamberbunnies.com). He spent a considerable amount of time with us discussing his character on BSG, his long stage career, and his acting methods. Every time I saw him over the course of the weekend he recognized me and was so lovely. It’s nice to hear that he had such a wonderful time. It really showed in his attitude that weekend.

Saul Tigh has always been one of my favorite characters on BSG and I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing that role. I appreciate what he has done for the show and for the character. I have an incredible amount of respect for him.

  34. Jonathan Berman Says:

Great job guys! You guys have put together an excellent website. Even when BSG goes, I hope you guys stick around! Otherwise, I’ll be double plus sad.

  35. atari_age Says:

Hey, he covered the wrong eye! What does it say about me that that immediately popped into my head. Wait, who am I kidding, all of us here are BSG geeks – you all thought the same thing LOL!

The interview was very fun, and what a nice guy Michael Hogan seems to be! I only have one quibble with the interview. I wouldn’t say Tigh wasn’t very important pre-Cylon. Actually from the Resistance epis onward, he was a central character (in my eye). But, it is true that his central importance went up a bunch of notches post-Cylon reveal.

Also, I love that, at least up to now, Tigh is first and foremost the very same man he always was. He just realizes his origins are different then he thought. Even as of last Friday’s epi, it’s very clear he is the exact same curmudgenly, ornery, lushy, and loyal-to-a-fault man as in the first miniseries.

He is, I’m betting, going to be a central example of how being “human” (ie, intelligent, free-willed, emotional, rational beings) does not hinge on the method of your construction.

  36. Michele Says:

Here’s my comment for all the video casts from LA. You guys are awesome. We had such a good time. Next time you are in the Maryland/Washington DC area, give us a shout. Come over for dinner and we can do some more podcasts together. I’ll even cook and make some butter beer :)

    Much Love,

  37. Shamwow!!!! Says:

Kudos to you guys for doing what you do! I just wanted to pop in and say keep up the good work and i hope to see more of you guys once the show ends.

P.S. More Luciana please! Can’t ever have enough Luciana.

Well….I think that gets my point across without trying to write an essay to try to win that tv. Take care.

  38. Joe Says:

I enjoyed hearing from Michael. It is also nice to see that he is not a shill for all things BSG. How he has been able to show his character’s flaws and strengths have really added to the show. I agree with Atari- Age about Tigh’s pre-cyclon statement about the characters importance.Tigh’s resistance on New Caprica was some of the best story and acting of the show.

  39. Tootie Says:

“We are not going to talk about the fragile body of Gauis fracking BALTAR!” HAHAHA

Like Pavlov’s God, Hogan had me too at hello in the miniseries.
The scene where he goes to Kara in the rack area and compliments her flying (after she saves Lee), offering her a drink, was incredible in terms of Hogan’s acting. Tighe is barely under control, and it is so clear this attempt to make up with Kara is costing him. His cheek muscle quivers as he compliments her and tries to form a bond with her…and she rejects him utterly. Hogan doesn’t overdo it, just lets Tighe dissolve into his shell and get back to business: ‘You’re returned to flight status’ and gets a dig in and leaves.

I don’t believe that being a part of BSG and being Tighe hasn’t affected him. I don’t believe that at all.

  40. David Says:

looks like the frak party was packed with lots of extras for die-hard fans. wish i could have been there… thanks Matt & Nat!

  41. Jimmy Says:

I have long awaited a Mr. Hogan interview. Thank you. I was really happy to know his reasons for attending the cons. I may want to come to one now.

  42. Matt Says:

This interview has given me an even more appreciation for Michael’s acting in BSG. I’ve read a few things here and there that say he’s a great person and I’m sure I’ve heard Edward James Olmos say the same thing too, but it’s cool to see him in an interview.

Thanks Matt & Nat for the always awesome video interviews & commentary, keep up the great work…..

Oh and I totally wish I could have made it to the FRAK Party…..

  43. Pavlov's God Says:

I wonder if one of these posts is Michael Hogan trying to win the Flat screen. Seems like he wanted it pretty bad.

If he wins – I say let him have it!!!! He earned it with his great work and no one should be stuck with a tiny 10″ TV.

By the way – this is not Michael Hogan.

  44. sinewav Says:

Wow an interview with Michael Hogan, how’d you do that? He’s been “the man that could not be interviewed” so seeing him is a real treat. A very insightful interview, seeing what he’s like out of character was great to see. While I’m a little disappointed that he’s not very sentimental about his role, I realize that’s who he is. Being one heck of an actor however whatever he’s doing is working so far be it from me to question him.

And Michael Hogan if you’re reading thanks for being an inspiration and for being very passionate about acting even if you’re not attached to the famed XO of Galactica, you still rule in my book.

    great interview.

  46. Adam Says:

Michael Hogan has been the quintessential non interviewee of the BSG world. I appreciate the fact that you got him for one. He seems like a down to Earth guy. I really love that he’s supporting the elder and homeless actors. That to me is just another testament to the caliber of Human being he truly is.

Watching him froth at the mouth over the C-Panel was hysterical as well. He’s really having a lot of fun being Michael Hogan. After seeing this interview, I was wishing more than ever I could’ve made the Frak party…would have been a hoot to have a few beers with the man! I wish him nothing but a happy life and steady work! Thanks for this interview!

  47. Scott Goins Says:

Michael Hogan is really an amazing guy. He was indeed excellent at Dragon*Con and I’m glad to hear that he’s going to be doing some more conventions!

  48. Nick Campagna Says:

I just have to say in regards to the interview with Tigh… Wow, he’s one of the best and most interesting characters, but for the interview (and I thought it was well done) my favorite point had to be while Matt was talking about the prize, the TV, the best part was Mr. Hogan’s like triple take from carmera back to the TV to Matt, and repeating over and over. For me that was the best due to the awkward moments and his expressions. So if that doesn’t qualify Me for the prize, not sure what will. Thank you for your attention.

Michael Hogan I think you are a fabulous interview!! yes the ‘fateful day at the end of the third season’ Matt, indeed!! interesting to note this difference b/w sci fi/fantasy pieces and the rest of the genres in terms of cast appearances interviews

There ya go, it takes a CON experience to understand why the cast SHOULD be there, the CONNECTION, yes yes ‘completion’ that happens thank you Mr Hogan, so well said!!! we are a family in sci fi/fantasy and yes BSG is rockin hard!!

It is FABULOUS that Michael Hogan had the EPIPHANY that comes with attending a CON, especially DRAGON CON!!! it is the realization of the sci fi/fantasy creation and work on the series/film as it comes to it’s fruition with the FANS!!

  50. Sabrina/VAwitch Says:

The BSG reboot has been some of the best SF-viewing I’ve enjoyed since ST:TNG. Michael Hogan sounds like he had a lot of fun attending DragonCon, as well as making the show. As a fan who loves going to conventions, it’s always nice to hear how actors perceive the Con-going fans. There’s the practiced, “safe” answers, and then there’s ones like Michael’s where he gets to see how much the “common man” enjoys his work, and sometimes are inspired by the work being presented (such as the artwork & costumes he saw). I hope to see him at a future DragonCon, and wish him continued success in his post-BSG career.

  51. Paul T Says:

Michael Hogan is my hero!!! What a professional.

  52. Buzzy Says:

A little something for the Canadian frakkers:

(sung to the tune of O Canada!)

    O Galactica!
    Our home and native land.
‘So say we all’ with all they X.O.’s command.
The glowing spines, the battle lines
    Adama leads his crew!
From aft to stern, O Galactica,
with all that we’ve been through.
Gods keep our ship free from Cylon reign.
O Galactica, we pledge by death or pain!
O Galactica, we pledge by death or pain!

  53. Christopher Bohler Says:

I love Hogan! The man is one of the funniest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. This is a great interview and it’s nice to a genre actor embracing his fans the way he does.

  54. Rainie Jueschke Says:

I saw Mr. Hogan at Dragon*Con and he seemed to be having a good time – it’s nice to know it wasn’t just acting! He seemed to truly enjoy the attention and being with the fans – he told me, regarding being there at the con – “It’s a gift!” It was a very sweet thing to say. Great interview, thanks!

  55. EZCYLON Says:

please see “Ellen…What about Ellen?” under “sometimes a great notion.”

  56. Bob loblaw Says:

    Woo! BSG ftw!

  57. TheMadIrishman Says:

I can’t believe you still have to be convinced about Ellen being the last of the five. You see her face transposed with Caprica Six back when Saul was “interrogating” her in the brig. At the time we’re all thinking, okay is this now going to be “head Ellen” like “head Six” and “head Baltar,” or that maybe Tigh has a screw loose.

    But think about this…

Could it be that maybe, **just**maybe** as one of the final five he has a little more intuition, and can recognize Ellen’s consciousness that’s somehow made it into Caprica Six instead of the resurection ship? That’s quite a leap for a normal skin-job cylon to make, but the final five are supposed to be a bit “more equal” than the others. Add to that what Ellend said to Saul back on “Cylon Earth” when she was dying, that they’d be together again. She may have meant more than just the incarnation we saw through the first few seasons. She may have meant on a more permanent basis.

  58. Headofyellowhue Says:

It’s astounding what this show has accomplished culturally. I’m part of the generation who watched Star trek on a black and white TV. Moorse law can be seen in the quality of writing and acting. But it doesn’t stop there, this simple story has ballooned and woven itself into the Internet storm.
