CapriCast 1.03 – Reins of a Waterfall

In the wake of Amanda’s announcement of Zoe’s involvement in the MAGLEV bombing, Caprica is ramping up momentum more and more with each episode… and with the addition of BSG’s Luciana Carro (Kat) and Christian Tessier (Duck) not to mention a few cameos from Stargate alumni, it feels like the Graystones and Adamas are in even more familiar surroundings already. We’ve got a two week break thanks to those pesky Olympics, so in lieu of a new Caprica episode, we hope you get a kick out of Capricast 103, as well as a jump on our new contest for the title sequence of our show!

Wow! This show for me has been nothing short of extraordinary. The slow ramp up in intensity just got blown throw the roof tonight. I recall William Adama speaking of his father being an ass but wow! What a dark, troubled and distraught Joseph Adama we saw tonight. His primal father instincts are driving him to embrace a life style he was trying to distance himself from just 2 episodes ago! It’s quite the reversal in characters than what we were all expecting.

I can’t wait to see just how long we go before Zoe finally says…”Hi Daddy…”

p.s. Oh and “please don’t frak mom in front of me anymore….” LOL!

  2. BSGcast Says:

Whoa… Adama is getting NASTY! Serious mob family… no wonder little Willie eventually gets out of the family business! I can;t believe how many BSG and Stargate actors popped into this episode! Luciana told us she’d be on, but Duck was a surprise!

Who else loved seeing Zoe’s one red eye trying to look away from her mum and dad frakking??? Yikes!

  3. CB2001 Says:

The show is really starting to step up in my point of view. I’ve had difficulty being drawn into the show, unlike where one episode of the RIS series hooked me.

But, there are some familiar faces that show up. As Luciana Carro confirmed, her appearance in this episode came through. Also, Christian Tessier (Duck from “The Resistance” webisodes) guest stars in the opening scene after the credits.

We get a bit more of the technology of the world of “Caprica.” Unlike the video disc introduced in “Six Degrees of Separation” from the previous show, we get to see a VHS tape along with a rotary phone (which is odd, since we’ve seen them use cell phones).

So far, things seem out of place in comparison to most. But to quote the Bob Dylan song (no, not the one we know): “Times they are a changin’.”

BTW, there is a reference to the word “Apotheosis” spoken by Sister Clarice Willow. The funny thing is, there’s two separate meanings that could very well apply to the show.

The first is obvious: In theology the term apotheosis refers to the idea that an individual, group, or locale has been raised to godlike stature. (which sounds like the SOTO)

The second: (from the Monomyth as explained by Joseph Campbell): When someone dies a physical death, or dies to the self to live in spirit, he or she moves beyond the pairs of opposites to a state of divine knowledge, love, compassion and bliss. A more mundane way of looking at this step is that it is a period of rest, peace and fulfillment before the hero begins the return. (this sounds a lot like a description of the Zoey A.I.)

For those who wonder about the above descriptions, both are from Wikipedia.

And unlike Adam’s idea on how Graystone discovers the Zoey A.I. is in the U-87, I think he’ll discover the tweak that Zoey makes to allow herself wireless access and then finally put two and two together.

  4. CB2001 Says:

BTW, KnighthawkDC and I have discovered there is a time difference between the U.S. and Canadian broadcasts of the show. It’s by one hour, but it’s still a time difference that interrupts the online chat at BSGPilots, but still it’s not bad.

  5. SG15Z Says:

Wow, Joseph is really going off the deep end here. Loved all the cameos! Especially Teryl Rothery! I’m liking were this show is going, it’s really starting to pick up.

  6. racheltng Says:

I was very worried about this show when I saw the pilot (actually before the pilot), but now I’m completely sold. The cast is first rate, the story is compelling, and the characters are headed in some scary places. That scene with the Graystones unknowningly having sex in front of their daughter totally squicked me out. The Tamara avatar introduces a disturbing and fascinating new storyline. Plus, that was a killer cliffhanger. I can’t believe they’re making us wait two weeks for this!

  7. Adam Says:

Didn’t they say something back on BSG that the Hybrids were a sentient being of some sort that ended up as they did from a type of data overload? If so, could the Hybrids be avatars gone mental (like Tamara) that Daniel put into skin jobs? That….would be an awesome tie in.

  8. Adam Says:

Just a footnote to my above post… from BSG Wiki…

“A Number Three suggests that the Hybrids have seen the place “between life and death” and have been driven mad as a result (Rapture). ”

The Holoband seems to me to be a place that absolutely personifies “between life and death.” I’m thinkin this is an awesome possibility of where the Hybrids came from. Especially if the Old Hybrid in Razor was indeed Graystone… ;)

  9. Kirsty Says:

I think this show has really great potential. It seems to get better and better with each episode. I can already picture it now. The teacher (forgot her name) finds Zoe. Then finds out how Zoe came to be in that centurion body and decides to make more. But she’d need the military to build the bodies, the military wouldn’t know that there were living beings inside the centurion bodies. It would almost be like having spies in thier midst right under thier noses. Sound familiar? Then the uprising begins, as they decide to wipe out their oppressors, take charge of the 12 colonies and attack.

As I was watching a thought popped in my head. That maybe greystone is the old man hybrid in “Razor.” He would have essentially been their creator… at least to some of them. They may have thought of him as a god. (Ooops just read adams post and see he wrote the same thing. It’s a coincidence I swear. ;) PS good reference to the similarities of the holoband world and the space between life and death. As is above so is below :) )

I also noticed that the teacher has similar features to model number 3, and one of Adama’s brothers friends looks like he could be related to Leoben… or even one of the people trapped in the old hybrid experiment room with the little girl in Razor.

Soon I’ll start remembering all their names lol

Question… is the language Adama and his brother speaking to eachother latin? or some other language of the 12 colonies unique to the rdmverse? Does anyone know?

  10. Adalla Says:

I am absolutely hooked with Caprica. In fact, I was hooked from the very start, from the Pilot itself and I knew a show with the the theme, topics and storyline of Caprica created by the makers of BSG could be nothing but a great success.

The fact that ratings have dropped for Ep 102 compared to Ep 101 surprises me, but I feel with so many ways now to watch the episodes through iTunes or SyFy’s Rewind website etc people are watching it through non-conventional means these days.

Anyways, as for Ep 103, I was utterly shocked by Joe’s last request to Sam in the last scene. What a great way to end the ep and get us to pick up our jaws form the floor.

The avatar scene in virtual-land was also amazing. Some truly thought-provoking scenes those…is Adama’s daughter really dead? What distinguishes her Avatar from her true self? What defines a human? Same crazy philosophical questions that BSG has always asked.

Oh and I really like Sam Adama. Great actor and character, and also quite a shock to find out about his homosexuality…RDM and Eick I see are still continuing to produce provocative television.

    ~Adalla

  11. K.C. Chandler Says:

This show…it’s amazing. It has me on the edge of my seat! Even though I will admit the pilot episode went a little bit slow; it still had me interested. And then the next episode came; and I was completely hooked. And now, this episode! I was literally speechless for an entire ten minutes.

Is it a bad thing, that the more Joseph goes off the deep end, the more I love him? I mean in the pilot, he was so…well, I didn’t think he would hire a hit on anybody, that’s for sure. But you just feel so bad for the guy. I can completely understand where that’s coming from. I mean, he lost his wife and daughter, saw his daughter again, then lost her again. You can really see where it all comes from.
Still, I can’t help but think he’s going down a path that kinda resembles a Mr. Felix Gaeta. Anger leading him down a bad path where you do things that will probably blow up in your face.

And then, there’s Willie Adama. I love him. I mean, I thought it was so adorable when he when he told those other mobsters “I’ve been in jail.” He was so cute! And I bet if those mobsters knew just what the future had in store for the kid, they might treat him with a little more respect.

And then there’s Sam. Again, you just have to love him. I mean, what a great character. He’s definitely one of my favorites in Caprica.

Then, there are the Greystones. I still have no idea what the frak Amanda was thinking going “My daughter was a terrorist!” so publicly. Look, I understand she was in shock, but was that really the best way to deal with that shock? Although it makes for some amazingly great television.

And then, the Tamara avatar. I truthfully love the idea of split personality between Zoe and Tamara. That way, when Zoe’s parents are frakking in front of the robot, Zoe can just let Tamara take over. (I loved that scene so much. Is it me, or could you almost see Zoe’s Cylon body pale a bit?)

I can not wait for the next episode. It’s hard enough waiting one week, but two? Oh, the agony…

  12. neonMRhyde Says:

first it is great to see BSGcast…..sorry CAPRIcast back in action. I have mist this small group of BSG and CAPRICA, its good to see it back in action.

It’s going to be interesting how they connect the dots to BSG and how the Cylon war began.

    Rebirth

Know the show, the film (or pilot) was great seeing some of the connection to BSG, but as the show airing know it fells like their losing story little with making it lesser like BSG, the Greystones feel a week part of the story and I feel that we should be getting more involved with the Cylons and how it effects the 12 colonies. I love seeing the Adama’s, see a much dark side to Bill Adamas family history when in BSG they were painted as a superheroes of the fleet, but Adamas family is look cool and having the same effects as they did in BSG.

    –QUESTION–
Did anyone get the felling that Sister Clarice Willow family and character female vision of Baltar in season 4 or is it me ???

    Reigns of a Waterfall

The series itself getting good than last week. there are lot of skeletons in Adamas family closet, what next a gangster shoot out in little Tauron or Sam Adama comes a Don ?? (joke), but more and more we get to know Adama’s past it is getting hard to see the man with Bill becomes and how he describes his father being the a good man.

Next time on Caprica I can seeing Sam Adama fight Zoe-C (Cylon), when Sam tries to kill Amanda Graystone. Like the idea of the Cylon model one (or Zoe-C) have a split personality, but are we seeing the birth of the Cylon human models. is Tamara the grandmother of the 8’s (Sharon), I can see alot of Tamara in the Sharon model’s and is Zoe-C the grandmother of the number six models ?? And are we going to see more free think Avatar’s……its going to be interesting to see the show going down that path.

And what is this big plan on Gemenon, is it possible there is more than one like Zoe-C a race of Avatars witch have no bodies and think on their own from other colonies??

the series is just get good i just the don’t ruin it like Rebirth or like The Woman King from BSG.

In all I can’t wait to see what happens next time :)

  13. Brian Says:

Another good episode that is moving the show into a more interesting place, I think.

And before I get on to my other comments, I have to address the people who are apologizing for Amanda’s behavior. Even if I concede that she announced because she was in shock (which I find, at the very least, extremely unlikely, because the last thing you want to do when you’re in shock is talk to total strangers), this episode further extended the nonsensical behavior of this woman. Ok, so it’s been what, a few days, maybe a week since she announced. Now she’s talking to Daniel in private, and she’s had time to think about this whole revelation of her daughter being associated with Soldiers of the One. Now, come on, folks. If you were Amanda, and you had just learned about some ambiguous connection between your daughter and some radical organization, AND there was a boyfriend involved, wouldn’t it cross your mind that she was either coerced or somehow forced into doing something she didn’t want to do? A very young, naive girl who was probably in love (or thought she was)? That kind of crap happens all the time! And if you were a parent, wouldn’t you try to side with your kid instead of immediately jumping to the conclusion that she was the evil, disturbed bomber? I just found that incredibly unbelievable. Sorry.

Now that that’s out of the way, the rest of this episode was pretty cool. Seeing Joseph losing his grip on the moral side of his actions was both believable and fantastically executed. Nice change of pace from his nonsensical actions from “Rebirth.” The last two minutes of the show were amazing. We’re really starting to see some BSG colors shine through. After all, wouldn’t you be tempted to kill that man if his daughter had killed your family, brought one of them back temporarily only to brush you off, and then lose her? Hopefully he will change his mind, but then that would deprive us of a wicked tense scene involving Sam and Amanda. I just hope the resolutions on this show aren’t quite as weak as they usually were on BSG (the Cain/Adama assassination plots come to mind as something that could have been handled much better). We shall see!

Oh, and Greystone being the old hybrid would be pretty cool. It would make a lot of sense, actually, because he is God in a very real sense. He has violated natural law and toyed with life. And from what I can tell so far, he will be giving birth to the Cylons in some capacity at least.

Oh, and also, Zoe-A’s reaction to her parents getting it on was hilarious…and I called it a few seconds before it happened. :P

  14. kirsty Says:

I think the whole Amanda greystone screaming her daughter is a terrorist makes perfect sense. She was grieving her daughters death, and now she’s in the anger stage. She’s mad at her daughter for not telling her any of this, but the truth is she’s really just mad at herself for not noticing what was right in front of her face. She’s just angry right now and needs someone to blame. So she’s blaming her daughter for causing her this pain. People do strange things when they are grieving. So to me it makes perfect sense.

I don’t think Greystone has violated any natural laws… as if there are any. He created life accidentally, it just happened. To me that seems perfectly natural. Wanting to see your dead daughter is also perfectly natural.

I think this show is heading in an excellent direction. Right up there with BSG… just without all the space battles ;)

  15. Brian Says:

    @kirsty

Well, then, I suppose different people handle pain and shock differently. I just didn’t expect Amanda’s shock to completely override her maternal instinct, which in my mind it did. Daniel, not Amanda, was the one who actually said “we don’t know what happened on that train,” and then suddenly he felt that it was a weak statement. See, I think most parents would give their kids the benefit of the doubt when it comes to something like this. It’s kinda why I am not really connecting with Amanda’s character all that well.

As far as what I said about Daniel “violating natural law,” well…maybe it was a poor choice in words. But you have to admit that Joseph Adama’s initial reaction to the whole concept of resurrecting a dead person made sense: that gives humanity the power to live indefinitely. You are cheating death. While I do believe there is plenty of room for ethical debate here (which makes this a good show), don’t you think it would set off a moral dilemma in your brain? He didn’t create life accidentally. Zoe created life, and then he used that process to create Tamera. He knew exactly what he was doing. And while I do think it’s perfectly natural to want to see your dead daughter, actually doing so is generally not so natural. ;)

And you are correct. This show is really starting to pick up. I hope it stays on track.

  16. Brian Says:

Oh, and the “she was in shock” argument really loses a lot of weight with this episode, too, because she says, quite sincerely, that she “would do it again.”

  17. Kirsty Says:

I should confess that I missed the first episode. I was all excited and got all cozy in front of the tv, just to find out in horror that I had totally missed the first episode and was watching the 2nd episode. So I donnnnt actually know how zoe’s avatar was created I was going on the 2nd episode and the way zoe said she was a combo of a centurian, zoe’s avatar and zoe’s memories etc… creating a trinity. In my mind that’s how the new life was created. By combining those 3 aspects new life was created that looked very similar to zoe. That’s what I mean by accidentally creating new life.
Either way as far as moral dilemas go it’s all personal opinon. Some people may find it disturbing while others don’t. If I had a daughter and she died I would feel pretty disturbed that someone made an avatar out of her. But at the same time I would want to see her far more than I felt disturbed. It would be confusing all around, I think. Is it right is it wrong… knowing it’s not really your daughter but wanting to see her so bad you ignore that it’s not technically her… then feeling like you’ve betrayed the real one for having those feelings and back and forth ahhh! Yes it would set off a confusing argument in my head if that happened to me.

I agree that Amanda was not doing what mothers should do. She should have supported her daughter and given her the benefit of the doubt no matter what, and even if she was angry she shouldn’t have destroyed her daughters (and families) reputation because of it. But I think still even though she said she’d do it again it’s because she’s angry at herself and taking it out on her daughter. It’s the only thing helping her make sense of the tragic death. Blaming her daughter and thinking of her daughter as a terrorist is helping her find a reason for this otherwise senseless tradgedy. She feels betrayed. It’s all just anger and revenge because she’s truley heart broken. But yes I agree she should have thought twice before she said that about her daughter in public.

  18. mareanon Says:

Caprica is missing strong female characters. BSG had such strong characters, men and women, fearless warrior types. So far Zoe is the only female character to have spunk, and she is a teenager stuck in a ceylon body. Amanda is not interesting and it seems like she is just being used to move the plot forward. Sister Clarice is not a likeable character, and Tamara is an unknown entity. There isn’t a Starbuck, a six, a Roslyn, or a Boomer on this show yet. There aren’t any main characters in the 20-30 range, maybe that’s what I’m missing on Caprica. So far the main characters are middle aged or teenagers.

  19. Adam Says:

Hey folks…just a reminder that everyone here is more than welcome to also register at http://www.bsgpilots.com Even Matt shows up every now and then (which we think is way cool). The awesome thing is we have a chat room called the “Launch Tube” where we all gather starting at 9pm EST USA during and after the episode. Registration is free and the conversation is always awesome. We also run the chat at 9pm Saturdays as well. We’d love to see you all there!

  20. BSGcast Says:

@mareanon – I absolutely agree with you. Other than Zoe, which I’m still not entirely sure I like, there aren’t any strong female characters on the show. However, it’s still early and we’re still getting introduced to new characters (like Luciana Carro’s character!). Maybe there will be some strong female characters in this season that will grow on you.

And even with BSG, although there were strong (yet flawed) female characters, I personally took a while to really grow to LIKE them. I was drawn to them and their complexity, but didn’t really like them.

Oh and yes, Sister Clarice is a creepy one, isn’t she?

    ~Nat

  21. Kirsty Says:

I think it all depends on the definition of strong. In BSG most of the female characters where in the colonial fleet as viper jockeys or admirals, or they were cylons. So it was always fight, fight, fight. We’re now transported to a show where half the females are either in highschool or teaching it, there is a mother in the throws of grief and not handling it well so I think contexts effect the definition of strong. Even Roslyn, who was a school teacher initially, and a very nervous president at first, stepped right up to the plate and became one of the strongest most courageous and brave characters on the entire show. I think we need to give it some time with caprica. They’re also not in a survival situation, it’s just day to day living where they aren’t being as challenged as they would if they were running for thier lives in the depths of space.

Sister Clarice is a little creepy… but I also think she’s kinda hot so hahaha I don’t know. I could see her being a lot like D’anna as the show progresses. Domineering and covert. But the name clarice immediately makes me think of silence of the lambs haha.

  22. Matt Says:

Your misuse of apostrophes is offensive. I’m really surprised.

  23. KC Says:

What’s with the camera going in and out?

Man, you have sharp hearing : I didn’t catch that ‘Pryah’ thing (BTW, good impression of Daniel Graystone). However, in that opening scene where Sam and Joseph confront Daniel, I heard Daniel say “I told you, Esai. She’s gone”.

I found this episode confused, unfocused, and boring. Not a good episode. Hope next week is better.

  24. CB2001 Says:

First off, great review guys. I will agree, the female characters are a bit weak, but we have to keep two things in mind: 1. we are looking at a period of time in the Colonies that occurs before the Cylon War. It’s possible that due to the war, it made anyone who lived through it “tough”. We’ve seen this with both Bill Adama and Helena Caine. 2. We’re on, basically, the third episode of the overall series. It could very well be that, to use the old saying, “the wheel hasn’t met the highway” yet.

Second of all, wow! I got mentioned for a second time in the overall reviews of both series. I think I may be blushing (or maybe my blood pressure’s low from having to finish work on a short film at school). Thanks for that. :D Also, Knighthawkdc from BSGPilots pointed something out to me about the word “Apotheosis” after we saw the episode. Apparently, it’s not the first time it’s been used in the BSG universe. After pointing this out to me, I actually had to check it myself. The first time that “Apotheosis” was used turned out to be in “The Plan.” It was spoken by the Basestar Hybrid just prior to the launching of the attack of the 12 Colonies. Freaky, eh?

Anyways, great review again and I hope that things continue well with you two. :D

  25. Brian Says:

Good cast. I definitely agree about Lacey. I think that scene in which she pins down a boy larger than her in the schoolyard is foreshadowing of what her character will be transforming into. It was actually pretty badass to see that coming from her. Combine that with the pressure from Zoe to get her to Gemenon, and I think this has the potential to lead somewhere awesome.

I also agree with your observations of homosexuality in these shows: very refreshing. Instead of going to that same ol place we always see, this show has done the smart thing and NOT made it a big deal. It’s the perfect way to say something without being too overbearing or trite about it. Well done, I say.

And guys, come on…just stop watching previews. Those are only there for viewers who’s interests are waning, so of course the will spoil the best parts of the next episode. I mean frak, Cally’s death was completely ruined for me because I accidentally watched a preview when I normally don’t. Just take a page from my book and turn the TV off when you see “Executive Producer”.

By the way, to those of you who are making a new opening title: please use the Caprica pilot soundtrack. There are some GREAT sounds in there that a) capture the tone of the show and b) are MUCH better than the official opening track. I’d try my hand at this myself, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time.

  26. Gilad Says:

    Great review, nice logo! :)

  27. CB2001 Says:

Brian- I have to agree with you a bit about how the homosexuality and how it’s not a big deal in the show. I actually believe the homosexuality in the show and how it’s not a big deal about it is more in reference to the sexuality of the Ancient Greeks in our own world’s history. I’ve heard of stories about how in Ancient Greece, older men would sleep with young men was an acceptable. And, of course, how the word “lesbian” actually derived from the name “Lesbos”, an island in Greece. Many people don’t know that in Ancient Greece, the women of Lesbos actually used to have sex as a part of their gratitude as being hostesses (and despite the name of the island, there were men that lived there and were classified as lesbians, meaning as being from the island of Lesbos). The only reason why the term “Lesbian” comes into connection with female homosexuality is because of the famous poet Sappho. There is not much known about her, except that she is the first known female poet to write about female sexuality in a similar way that men used to write about female sexuality at the time. Some even believe that Sappho may have been the first documented lesbian (in modern terms).

Sorry, I watched the History Channel documentary “The History of Sex” a couple of months back.

  28. Fayth Says:

I have to say, the fact that people don’t care about homosexuality; and if you’re gay or a lesbian, is one of the reasons why I love the Galactica/Caprica universe. I am a very strong believer in gay-rights, so seeing a show where being gay is perfectly normal is a breath of fresh air.

I think that you guys are right, when you say that Lacey is going to be a very strong character. She’s definitely showing signs of being strong so far. Especially given the fact she’s in a very confusing situation. I mean, two of her friends died on the MAGLEV bombing, a train she was supposed to be on. Then she finds the Zoe avatar, and realizes even though it’s not Zoe…it still is in a way. Then you have Clarice, who she knows is using her as a pawn for STO, she just doesn’t know what shes being used for. Add that to all the crap she’s getting at school, for being friends with a “terrorist”. If it was me in that situation, I would not be handling that very well.
I have to admit, I smiled when she did that full body tackle on that one guy (forget his name), once she finds out that even though hes picking on her for being a terrorist, he’s in the STO himself. Hurrah for vengeful teenagers!

Another thing I have to say is, even though most people don’t like Clarice that much, I really like her character. Mainly because she’s a time bomb. We know she’s going to do something. We don’t know what, where, or when, but we know that when it happens it’s going to be big. And I appreciate the creepiness. It just wouldn’t be fun if everybody was normal!

Also, back to Lacy, my other theory for her is that she becomes a Hybrid. I saw that other people were posting “Hybrid” theories, and it got me thinking. I know that Lacey becoming a hybrid is a bit far-fetched, but she just looks like that hybrid! I think it’s definitely a possibility. Not a likely possibility, but a possibility.

Whatever happens, this has definitely become one of my favorite shows on TV. Even if I wasn’t a BSG fan before, this definitely has me hooked!

On a side note, since people are making little cameos, how awesome would it be if they managed to give all the original actors a small little cameo like Ducks? It would make my day, that’s for sure!

Now, I have to admit, I just got into BSG this summer. I was sick, I had twenty-five dollars of iTune’s gift cards, and one of my friends recommend the show. Having nothing else to do, I downloaded the mini-series. I was instantly hooked, and used the rest of those gift cards on BSG episodes, and throughout the rest of the year, I’ve maneged to watched nearly every episode of BSG. I’ve just now discovered you guys, and the BSG cast. You guys are awesome! I can’t wait for more CapriCast!

  29. Kirsty Says:

I wonder if the person Sister Clarice was talking to in the holoband priest chamber (that’s what it looked like) was the soon to be imperious leader. He seemed to talk with a serious superiority complex. And there were leaders of the cylon race as it began to develop before the final 5 came from earth. I know in old bsg they are reptilians… I wonder if people who started the STO movement are a different race posing as human, to help thier new species come into being. Then seized the opportunity Daniel Greystone presented them when they found out he was making centurians. Some theories of reptilians are that they are shapeshifters. Maybe that will be a new twist on the imperious leader.

This is a clip of the imperious leader. It’s actually kinda funny to see some of the old school stuff.. haha kinda cute.

  30. EZCYLON Says:

    hey guys,
just a couple of things i wanted to point out about “uncle Sam.” if you remember the admeral actualy did say something about his uncle to Tigh in season 4, i believe it was ‘Sometimes a Great Notion,’ he had said something about spending summers on his UNCLE’S farm back when he was talking about wolves swimming out to see. all i can say is i hope they have a little glimps of that some time over the course of the show.

  31. gilad Says:

hey, maybe the Daniel cylon in BSG is based on Daniel Graystone?

  32. Shauna Says:

I was going through my thesaurus and something pretty obvious thwaped me between the eyes that I had been missing all the way through BSG. We all know that Caprica has its roots in the zodiac sign of Capricorn. What hit me was that Caprica could also have its roots in the word capricious – “given to sudden behavior change.”

Maybe that’s a sign of things to come? On a world of apparently unlimited riches, doesn’t everything revolve around new thrills and chills to keep the masses happy – and controlled?

It’s great to see that Sam’s homosexuality is simply accepted. What I would really love to see would be a transgender character show up as a regular! (It’s the activist in me.)

Prediction for the last scene of the series:

“Will” Adama receives his Viper wings and his first shipboard placement – on the Galactica herself.

  33. Kirsty Says:

I totally agree! I’m gay and my ex is trans. It would be very cool to see a transgendered person on the show. I know in Greek mythology there is a god/godess call hermaphrodite. A union of a male and female in one body and this person was the child of Aphrodite and Hermes, hence the name hermaphrodite. I think it would be awesome, especially if they do it in classic bsg style of “not an issue.”

  34. CB2001 Says:

Shauna- Honestly, I predict we will either see the “birth” of the Galactica or at least see young Bill Adama being assigned to Galactica as the final. So, we may see get to see the old girl again. :)

Kristy- That would be somewhat interesting character detail. I’m a straight guy and I honestly would prefer to see more of a diversity in characters like we saw in the previous series. As long as they pull a reveal in the same way as “The Crying Game”, I think having such a character would expand the diversity of the types of characters we’ve already seen.

Honestly, I’m hoping we can also see other kinds of people involved, not just in relation to genders. There’s potential to see more handicapped characters (we saw one person aboard Galactica that had a prosthetic arm, and then we saw Gaeta with a prosthetic leg), as we’ve heard Graystone talk about people who live with prosthetic limbs. And why not a character that’s has high-functioning autism like Temple Grandin or a Stephen Hawkins-like character with ALS?

  35. Shauna Says:

@CB – A cameo by Stephan Hawkins would be incredibly fun! He did it for Star Trek tng, maybe here? The laying of the keel of Galactica, which would have been the ultimate weapon of her day, would be cool to watch.

And, with everything else you said, I agree wholeheartedly – straight across the board!!!

    (Oh, wait… Can I still say straight? ;D )

  36. Catfish Says:

I’m supprised there isnt more chatter about the wireless VR. Cap Six made it clear that projection was central to Cylon psychology. The ramifications for Zoe creating projection and it being central to all Cylon thinking kind of got glossed over.

I think the one possible, and diabolical result of Zoe’s use of the VR is her Dad discovering it and using the network to populate all of his other Cylon bodies.

  37. Veela Says:

This may seem a bit off topic; but I got to thinking about the song that Dr. Graystone is working on composing. Something that we see him working on while dealing with the grief of losing his daughter both literally as well as in the cyber-world.

And then later on I was listening to Gaeta’s lament. Something that we see him singing when he is lost and in pain and confused (so most likely not something that the character of Gaeta composed, more likely a song that that resonated with him somehow as a representation of loss and confusion as well as the searching for the right answers)

Alone she sleeps in the shirt of man
(could represent the presence of Zoe within the Cylon shell created by her father)
With my three wishes clutched in her hand
( the wishes that all parents have for their children, plus the uncertainty of knowing the future)
The first that she be spared the pain That comes from a dark and laughing rain
( that Dr. Graystone hopes that Zoe’s memory isn’t going to be forever slandered because of the association with the terrorist act)
When she finds love may it always stay true
(Zoe was looking for the love of her ‘one true god’)
This I beg for the second wish I made too
    But wish no more
    My life you can take
(insert obvious parental grief about wishing they could take their child’s place in death)
To have her please just one day wake
To have her please just one day wake
(his hopes for the virtual Avatar to reawaken the soul of his daughter)

I dunno; just a thought that occurred to me today.

I really miss the opening credit ’spoilers’ that BSG had, it was my favourite bit. I know most people didn’t like them because it gave away what was going to happen in the espiode but they didn’t for me. They were so fast I was just like “what just exploded” or “who just got punched in the face” and that made it more exciting for me. Please let Caprica bring that back.

I remember that Caprica was always advertised as being a story of two familes at war and killing Amanda Greystone would definitely start a war, so I say do it, lets kill her off. Yeah.

I am starting to like Zoe more each episode. I heard one of may friends say after watching the pilot, that it should have been called Battlestar 90210 and that’s exactly how I felt too. It was definitely lacking those ADULT kick-ass characters such starbuck, apollo, helo and athena etc.

I hate to be crude but wasn’t one of the great things about BSG that there was at least one character for everyone who you would like to see with no clothes on, for boys and girls alike and as of yet I don’t feel Caprica has any of those

    “Gravedancing” was Great! tonight

I was hoping everyone was on tonight to see their take on another great episode.

I have to admit I laughed watching Zoe Cylon Dance with the tech. We may have learned who came up with the chest plate and maybe the body plating for the Centurions, or maybe the design? I digged the throw back to the original Battlestar “the colonial anthem” was a nice touch and the Dance music seemed almost like a dance mix of the Caprica Theme.

Daniels secret is out and all of the worlds now know that he made a Zoe Avatar. You almost see a giant weight lift off Daniels shoulders. Sister Clarice finally gets the news that she was waiting for knowing Zoe is still out there.

There might be a mole at the Global Defence. My money is on the woman partner. She allowed Zoe’s boyfriend (sorry can’t remember his name) to walk after he was arrested.

We also see that the Tauron’s all have a mutual understanding between one and another. Very interesting.

Oh! I forgot Williams Grandma. Boy! I wouldn’t want to mess with her.. She is one scary Grandma….

Next weeks trailer looks like we finally see what Tamara is up to in the virtual world? Maybe we get to see how she fits into the big picture or “Plan”

  40. Tootie Says:

The show after Caprica airs on Space Channel (Canada) called ‘Innerspace’ is very good – and always was for BSG too. The lads as I call them (hosts Teddy and AJ) talked about how the conversation between Amanda and Sam in the taxi about his tattoos reflected the Tauron/Caprican difference in culture. Sam was saying that the marks on his skin are his history, his traditions, and Amanda was all “I can put on your skin whatever you want it to say, I can revise your history and lie about it.” I didn’t really see the significance until they pointed that out. Caprica is all about progress, make it up as you go. Tauron is the opposite.
I liked Amanda for the first time. I liked the way she just innocently went along with this guy and let him drive her home. I liked the way she tried to grieve with him in the taxi and offer to change his tattoos if he wanted.
I really liked the TV show scene – it was brilliantly done and totally believable. Daniel saying he will no longer profit from Holoband technology was awesome to restore his credibility – to align how he he views them (morally questionable) with not profiting by them. But I do agree that they could have easily said ‘her boyfriend influenced her, end of story.’ The boyfriend angle is huge – and was ignored by Kat’s character, which is silly.
I think Amanda thinking the worst of Zoe (that she did the bombing) is completely consistent. She, for the most part, hated and resented Zoe from the start. Still does. Doesn’t really want Daniel grieving her. Will frak him, will convince him Zoe did the bombing, to prevent him from staying close to Zoe. She didn’t like the avatar talk.
I like their marriage however – they aren’t perfect, and piss each other off, but they really do love each other.

Overall, some great tension, suspense and character development in this episode, setting up some cool plot to come with Tamara’s avatar and the trip to Gemanon. Although I could connect with one character somewhat (Amanda), I still don’t have a connection to anyone else or care what they want or if they get it. I want Clarice killed off -she’s incredibly annoying.
Where is Amanda going to go as a character? She needs to find a new job…it would be logical to see her trying to find out more about Zoe’s life, and also she will find out about the Zoe avatar (and meet her). THAT should be interesting.

    Oh no! Great cast, but:

    *Graystones.

    No apostrophe!

  42. John Q. Frak Says:

Same for the Adamas. Strike that apostrophe!
