CapriCast 1.07 – The Imperfections of Memory
Amanda sees Head-Darius? Her old saying “All of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again”? Plus, Daniel finally suspects Zoe survived in U-87 and Joe gets into New Crap City! And what the frak was with that close-up on the graffiti?
Get your voting fingers ready, this episode of Capricast also features our two favourite submissions for our new show intro! Team Izzy and Team Chuck Norris made such awesome contributions, we couldn’t decide on our own. Nor should we. Capricast is for you as much as it is for us, so it’s only right that you get to have your say on how we start it off each week!
Voting will last midnight on Monday March 22nd in your timezone. How do we know your timezone? Magic.

YES!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Daniel finally figured out that Zoe is inside the U-87! Leave it to the pup to figure it out first!
Anyone commented that the virtual glasses have the Cylon eye roaming back & forth?

These episodes are just getting better and better, tuning this show into one of the best things on television! How my dad fell asleep during this episode, I will never know.
There were quite a few revelations about Amanda during this weeks episode. She had a brother who died, she became a heavy drug user, and was placed in a mental facility because she kept seeing visions of him! And now she’s seeing him again.
Now, I don’t think this is because she’s going crazy. I think what Amanda is seeing is the head-versions of her brother, like Head-Six, or Head-Baltar. The only reason I think this, is because if she was going crazy, wouldn’t she be seeing Zoe too? Now, the question is, how will “Darius” play a role later on?
Now, I think I was one of the view people who actually liked Clarice from the beginning. I’ve always found her fascinating, and I’ve been interested in where her story line goes. And I have to say, I think her story-line took an interesting turn in this episode. I mean, she slipped up, and practically said “I’m in the terrorist organization that killed your daughter”, even if she was trying to comfort Amanda. Although, am I the only one who loved the “oops” look on her face, when she realized what she had said?
One thing I have to add is, I think Clarice actually cares for Amanda. I mean, it just seems that the more they are together, the less it seems she’s trying to use Amanda. I don’t think she would have slipped up, trying to comfort Amanda about everything, if she was just using her for her own means.
So, now we wait and see on what Amanda does. That can be anybody’s guess. The most logical thing to think is, she’ll go after Clarice, but knowing this show and it’s creators, that just seems to obvious. My second guess is that Clarice will somehow convince Amanda that there is only one god. That would be an interesting plot point, but again, it just seems to obvious.
My third guess is they’re just going to give us something so simple, like Clarice going “Zeus. Who else would I be talking about?” And Amanda being slightly high at the time, just let it slide. But then again, that would just be such a let-down. Whatever it is, I’m sure we’ll all be amazed.
Finally, Daniel finally figure it out! That only took seven episodes! I have to say, this was one of the best episode endings yet! Also, I am now naming this show as the Queen of the Cliffhangers, for obvious reasons. I’m so anxious to find out what going to happen now that Daniel knows, I don’t know what I’m going to do all week!

We got a little bit more connections to the BSG series. And I think I found a very interesting detail. Amanda went to a mental institution after her brother’s death, right? And as we see in the letter, it’s in Delphi right? I think I happen to know what that happens to be like, as I believe we have seen it before. In Season 2’s “The Farm” for “Battlestar Galactica”, Simon explained the hospital that he and Starbuck were in: “We’re about twenty clicks north of Delphi. Used to be a mental institution.” So, it could be possible that Starbuck was in the same building that Amanda Graystone was in when she went insane after losing her brother, much like how Athena and Helo passed by the same spot where Joseph Adama and Daniel Graystone first met.
Also, I have a bizarre question: Does anyone else feel that Clarice is trying to seduce Amanda, and not just in the religious way? It’s probably just me (as I have the same feeling when it comes to the scenes between Clarice and Lacy earlier in the season).
March 13th, 2010 at 1:56 am
CB2001: It’s not just you! I was getting that same vibe! The only reason I didn’t put that in my original post, was I figured it was just me imagining things, and it wasn’t that important to bring up. But I’m glad that somebody else felt that way too. I can see that couple later on in the show, for some reason. It would make sense.
March 13th, 2010 at 4:01 am
I think you guys are both right. I saw it right away, but more than Clarice trying to seduce her, I think that Amanda has a little crush on her aswell. Especially since Daniel hasn’t been around to be there for her emotionally when Clarice is. But I think Clarice is about to get herself busted by blurting out her one god shit. I think it’s going to get Amanda thinking about who the hell got her daughter into the STO in the first place and if she points the finger at sister Clarice it’s all over.
March 13th, 2010 at 11:50 am
I think its kinda weird how Zoe calls Daniel “Daniel” instead of “Dad”.
Daniel and Yusef are both looking for they’re daughters at the same time. I think they will find them at the same time.
And it seems that Zoe can’t tweak code the way that Tamara can (the flight sim incident). Original Zoe must have made her like that on purpose. To be more “natural” as Zoe put it. That will make for an interesting Zoe vs Tamara rivalry
Also, I think Fayth was on to something when making the connection between Amanda and Kara. Another thing I’m not sure if anyone noticed but the accident that killed Amanda’s brother “Darius”, was at the Caprica City Museum. Thats where Kara went to retrieve the Arrow or Apollo for Rosolin in BSG.
IDK something about Amanda and Rosolin or Amanda and Athena, Number 6 and Clarice, and Zoe and Hera that seems to be too coincidental to be nothing. There is are connections that has yet to be explained/revealed. But if you really pay attention they’re roles almost exactly mirror each other.
Athena, mother Hera
Amanda, mother of Zoey
Athena had visions
Amanda had visions
Number 6 was trying to get Hera
Clarice is trying to get Zoe
Clarice, sexy seductress
Number 6 well….
Zoe, the special child
Hera, the special child
There are more but I don’t want to ruin too, much. If my theory is correct that is.
Just a side note, in ancient Greece, Delphi was the site of the Oracle of Delphi. A place where special women would get high in a cave and have visions and prophecies of the future revealed by Apollo. This, I think is tied to Amanda, Rosolin and Clarice.
For me Amanda just became a much more interesting character. But I still don’t like her.
Oh, and the unknown Daniel from BSG HAS to be Daniel G’s Avatar or a permutation of him created by Ellen (who I think is a permutation of Athena/Amanda). Tigh being a permutation of Daniel/Helo. Or Clarice could be the original model for creating Num 6 or a permutation of Rosolin. It would only make sense.
Just thinking aloud here. Because I’m sure there is a correlation somewhere.
Tigh and Ellen wanted a child but never could
Baltar and Six is the angelic (for lack of a better word) parents of Hera
Athena and Helo are the actual parents of Hera
Daniel and Amanda are the actual parents of Zoe
Clarice wants Zoe
Rosolin wanted Hera
Num 6 wanted Hera
IDK too much to think about right now….
March 13th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
If the Final Five tied the Hera to Athena then that would support Hera = Zoe and Amanda = Athena (Num
and all this has happened before and will happen again.

I like the idea of Darius being a head character, because of the clue in the poster. She also says to Clarice, “You know that old saying, all this has happened before and it will happen again.” Anders did say there were signs and they just didn’t see them. But does this mean that the 5, who didn’t know the signs should have seen them, or other members of humanity did too? The only correlation is that The Adama’s lose Zak in an accident, w/Kara blaming herself, Lee feeling guilt and shame, and blaming his Dad, Adama just hearbroken. Amanda says something about the accident being her fault, and for some reason Darius is trying to send her a message.
I can’t believe it took Daniel that long to figure out Zoe was in there; didn’t he put her there? Did she want him to know? I’m not sure because she’s been faking it for so long, so she could move freely between the 2 worlds. Now, the end really has begun, because the “souls” will be the only thing that will make the cylons, true “sentient” beings as he calls them. I love it when she kicks the ball to the dog. Also, we knew that she was making the machine move, as she is its’ soul; she is not the robot, it’s her shell, like a body, she lives in v-world. Which will then solidify Clarice’s idea that there is an afterlife that is real. Plus, Zoe is still a genius, and she knows how to make v-world “real”.
Oh, and yes I think Clarice was making the moves on Amanda, and I believe will convert her in the end, because of her seeing Darius. I also hope that Joseph will find Tamara, and she will tell him that Zoe and Lacy told her to go to this place. He will then tell Daniel–I’d like to see it that way.

@Goku: In “Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Pt. 2”, Kara retrieves the arrow from the Delphi Museum of the Colonies.
@CB2001: Good catch regarding the Delphi Mental Institution. I’m sure there’ll be more of these “happened before and will happen again” flashbacks and previews. Since the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver is the set for both the Opera House of BSG and the V-club of Caprica, what exactly is the “Secret of the Opera House”?
This was an intensely captivating and revealing episode. More open plot lines and previously pedestrian characters became suddenly more interesting. The brother of “I see dead people” Amanda bears a striking resemblance to Leoben from BSG, in particular the staring figure haunting Roslin from “Flesh and Bone”. Amanda’s ability to see Darius seems to be of great interest to Clarice. There’s something strange about the people of “The Conclave”, but I’m sure that won’t be revealed very soon.
Joseph’s “I really think you need a bigger gun” comment was a funny homage to the “I think we’re going to need a bigger boat” from Jaws. And the flying tutorial was absolutely hilarious.
My first motorcycle was almost identical to the Honda CB750 in the scene with Lacy and Keon. Congratulations to whoever has kept that bike in such excellent condition for so many years.
Zoe’s attempt to manipulate Philo into letting the U-87 experience the world outside of the lab backfired. Philo took the idea of generative processes and ran with it. Daniel seems to have recognized Zoe at the very end of episode, but he may still not completely admit that his actual daughter is conscious inside the U-87. Daniel’s capacity for denial is incredibly strong. Even if Daniel truly recognizes Zoe’s presence in the U-87, Daniel will likely continue the process of putting the U-87 into production. Can’t let Vergis get the precious Bucs. Then Zoe’s only hope of emancipation may require her revealing her nature to Philo. That should be interesting.
Zoe’s observation that “living systems use generative algorithms” was brilliant. Too bad she was unaware of the work of an obscure Scorpian mathematician in the field of fractional dimensions. His seminal paper “Dimfracts, Form, Chance and Dimension” has remained unknown and unread for centuries. Perhaps his advisor’s reaction of “Dimfracts, what an unfortunate name” quenched any hope of wider recognition.

The show got off to a slow start but I could see that there was genius at play. I think the last three episodes have revealed that CAPRICA is going to be just as compelling, at least on an intellectual level, as was BSG. There is so much weight to these scenes and I feel we are only scratching the surface of the true premise of the show.
I knew I was hooked this week… as the episode loaded on my DVR and I saw the recap and I got excited like BSG used to make me right before an episode started. Whatever it is about this world, I am addicted. Hopefully, we get many more seasons of this show and the creators get to close it out their way. I dream of a jump in time where we see the cylons grow into a real military force that turns on the humans… but I won’t expect it.
March 14th, 2010 at 6:53 am
@CB2001 – Absolutely Clarice is seducing Amanda! And Amanda is playing hard to get. It would not surprise me if they hook up.
@Darth – Of course we are hooked. After all, all this has happened before…
What about this as a plot turn:
Daniel realized that Zoe is the soul of the U-87. Zoe responds with a “Hi, daddy,” or some such comment. Daniel now cannot use the U-87 as a weapon of war because it would mean sending his only daughter into battle.
Vergis steals/kidnaps the U-87 and it is Vergis who makes the zillions of centurions that lead to war with the Cylons. What better revenge could there be?
I don’t think Amanda will react well to learning that Roe is in the U-87. I can easily see her going off the deep end and wanting to check back into a psych ward. Clarice will offer to take Amanda, but they have a trist instead. A little parlez-vous hubba-hubba, or a little spreken ze nookie, if you prefer. ;D That will be when Amanda is turned into a SOTO.
March 14th, 2010 at 6:56 am
I do wish there was an edit ability. Sorry for the typo on Zoe above. (slaps hand saying “Bad fingers! Bad! Bad! Bad!”)
March 14th, 2010 at 10:36 am
@Shauna: Interesting speculation about Vergis stealing the U-87, but I think the reveal that Vergis believes Daniel’s MCP to be flawed will lead to something important, like only a specifically flawed MCP can be matched to a human soul carried by an Avatar. If Daniel does lose the Zoe/U-87 to Vergis, then it should be Game Over for Daniel. It’s a bit too early in the series for that. I hope. And Vergis wouldn’t steal something broken, unless he was lying about that.
Regarding the Amada/Clarice thing, you all may be right, but I think the Amanda/Clarice relationship will become a lot more important than a simple fling. My guess is that the visions of Darius will show that Amanda is different is some very fundamental way from the others (except perhaps Clarice).
March 14th, 2010 at 5:53 pm
This episode left me with very mixed feelings. The best example is the very ending: The OMG lasted for about 2 seconds and then I started to feel kind of disappointed. It may have been the acting, which was somehow unable to compete or at least compliment the McCreary-drums in that last scene, but mainly it was that I just can’t get myself to care about Daniel or anything he has done since the board meeting. But really, the whole episode left me kind of disinterested. There was a lot going on, but only the parts in V-world were satisfying to me, be it the Joseph’s search for Tamara or the V-date (always nice to see Vipers, no matter which mark – and Zoey’s less-than-subtle suggestions to Philo concerning U-87 were adorable).
The other storylines just didn’t seem to fit, in my eyes. On their own, I might not even have considered them bad, although I am very sceptical about Darius and that whole mystical aspect which was also my least favourite part of BSG. I’m fine with religious zealots in the show discussing the finer points of poly-/monotheism and hunting for a way to realize scripture through technology (in fact, I find that fascinating), but I don’t need another head-character, even though it’s unfair to judge before even having heard Darius speak.
My main problem with the episode was that it lacked the focus of the last two episodes, where there was a clear A-plot and just a handful of clearly secondary plots. This felt like we head at least 4 different plots that were competing with each other, trying to move all characters forward and even introducing a previously unmentioned development (Amanda’s visions) and didn’t give justice to Daniel’s pivotal realization… If even the writers seemed to have thought that this new arc wasn’t able to lift a single episode as the A-plot, perhaps they should have taken a closer look and made something out of it that can – or scratch it altogether.
I’m beginning to miss a clearly defined goal that all characters somehow work towards, as they had in Galactica. There it was always clear that they wanted to get to Earth (or in case of the Cylons, stop the humans from getting there), so even if all characters were wrapped up in their own little dealings, there was always that big goal to come back to. Even though Caprica is an entirely different show, it seems to lack just such a focus, because at the moment all those characters lead their separate little lifes with only marginal contact. After the last two episodes it had felt like the show was picking up its pace, but now after “Imperfections”, it feels like it fell back into a slow and sometimes incoherent story-telling that makes me wonder whether we’re going to get a second season.
March 15th, 2010 at 10:19 am
@Crispin : it does seem like all the plots are unconnected, but there is one common element : STO. Even Joseph being in New Cap City is related because Tamara and Zoe are examples of everlasting life. I forsee that the STO will be revealed in the two remaining episodes.
I actually prefer that the characters have different goals – it’s more important that each one cares about their individual goals and then seeing their goals conflict, the future Zoe / Daniel conflict is a clear example of this.
March 15th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
I can’t remember which exact episodes from BSG but I do remember that there were some since (multiple episodes) were skinjobs were able to go into a Caprica city with their minds. Specially in the last episode where (Boomer and Hera) on their way to the mother ship, she is trying to comfort Hera and says: “when I’m unhappy, I go to my special place” and the scene changes to Boomer walking in her house. She gets surprised that Hera was able to join her. Wouldn’t that be the v-world? Also, Hera having cylon powers as well. We now know that cylons are able to connect directly to the v-world.
Also, I notice that V-world red graphic icons (during the visual representation of entering the v-world) are same as the Cylons base ship graphic icons.
Love the show can’t wait for every Friday…
March 15th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
The good news is that one episode does not a series make. Overall, it wasn’t a bad episode – just a little plodding. For me, I think the issue is that RDM did such a great job “awakening” Tamara and then has been teasing us with this story ever since. The Tamara story is creeping along at a snail’s pace and we don’t know what she’s been up to. Is she a virtual Tony Montana terrorizing V-world…“You wanna play rough? Okay. Say hello to my little friend!” Like many other posts, I want to see what Tamara does next.
I also think once the secret behind the regenerative power of Tamara’s avatar becomes *widely* known, you have to wonder how many “grocery boys” in the real world will purposely engineer their physical death so they can permanently inhabit V-world with virtual superhuman abilities. Many of the players in V-world undoubtedly feel exactly like Tad/Heracles when he said “this game really does mean something to me…it actually allows me to be something”.
At a minimum, you know the power of death is going to be perverted in V-word…eventually. Tamara will not be allowed to “rule” V-World without being challenged. An interesting counterpoint to morality in V-world is that it is a window into the true motivation of people who are unfetter by consequences. It becomes a raw and vicious manifestation of the human subconscious – not unlike the “Id Monster” from Forbidden Planet.
@VeganDirtEater, I absolutely agree with you about the absence of sci-fi (not SyFy) tech in the series. Even BSG – as space drama – wasn’t dependent upon sci-fi to tell their story however, it was still very enjoyable to see as a fan of the series. Just as I love the bits of information we get about the culture of the Taurons (and hopefully the other colonies), it would be great to add some bits of the everyday technology.
For example, maybe Graystone and Vergis will compete for the Battlestar Project and we’ll see some of the preliminary designs for the warships of the early Colonial Fleet. We know the Colonials fiercely competed and were obsessed with technology – even engaging in war against each other. It wasn’t until the Twelve Colonies were faced with annihilation by the rebellious Cylons during the First Cylon War that they united and signed the Articles of Colonization.
I absolutely think a little taste of technology would go a long way to add depth and richness to this series. I’m not looking for the Caprica version of the creature cantina in Mos Eisley on Tatooine OR superfluous “Treknobabble” – just an occasional view into the everyday uses of technology in the Twelve Colonies.
@Shauna, I chuckled over your call out about the dog figuring out Zoe was inside the U-87 before Daniel. It was a great scene, even if I’m not sure exactly how the dog could smell Zoe’s code.
Good comments all around…and I’m looking forward to the next episode…
March 15th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
@Tiberius1111: Regarding the Sci-Fi aspects (or scarcity thereof) of the show, I only recently became aware of Serge’s twitter account. Serge had already answered several of my questions (from others) regarding the planets (e.g. Caprica and Gemenon orbit around a barycenter; Tauron has a moon, not a co-planet; and FTL jump technology is currently available only to the military).
Which raises even more questions, like how did the MCP (and Vergis for that matter) make its way from Tauron to Caprica in a reasonable amount of time? I can see Vergis getting a complementary fast ride via the military. Has the Halatha infiltrated the military?
With Caprica and Gemenon orbiting each other as their system orbits their sun, the tidal effects would be enormous. It would be interesting to show that on the show, perhaps using footage from the Bay of Fundy. Eclipses would also be inevitable no matter how the orbital planes are arranged. Massive eclipses would be really cool. Weird stuff like that can be worked into the plot if the writers are clever enough. I realize that this may seen completely unimportant to those focused only on the relationships, but this is after all a prequel to a “Naturalistic Sci-Fi” show, not some free-floating drama.
Tamara’s avatar was created by Daniel using Zoe’s codebase, which was somehow lost during the Zoe download process. Any wannabe V-world supermen wanting to become so by engineering their own suicides would not achieve the desired outcome. One possibility is that since Zoe still exists, Zoe could re-create the destroyed/lost avatar code since she wrote it in the first place. Maybe even improve it and make Avatar 2.0 widely available.
Imagine if every single “toaster” thus turns out to be based upon a unique human soul. The Cylon War could be fought by former humans who imagine they’re just fighting some virtual war in a virtual world, killing virtual people. Pets like Caesar become the raiders. Instead of catching frisbees at the park, they shoot down Vipers, first in the V-world and eventually in the real world. And love doing it.
@Crispin: I think we’ll find the Eric Stoltz’s acting at the very end was extremely precise. Daniel has recognized something in the machine, but I’m expecting that Daniel’s Mengele-like detachment from humanity will allow him to deny that it’s the real Zoe in there. This will allow him to send his daughter off to war without a second thought.
On a personal note, Serge tweeted that “Tauron City” is really called Minos by the locals. Minos was the first name of my real-life three-greats grandfather. Yea team Tauron!
For a probably completely irrelevant footnote, sixteen years ago Eric Stoltz starred in “Killing Zoe”. Weird.

Hello everyone, my name is Izzy and I wanted to quickly say thank you to Matt & Nat for selecting my entry as one of the top 2 for the Capricast show open.
I am a Motion and Title Designer by trade here in Minneapolis and I was between gigs when the announcement was first made, so I took a few days to put something together for the contest and I hope you all will like it and vote for it:)
I’ve watched BSGcast since the beginning, however I’ve never posted in the comments.
Mainly because there were already many folks with the same thoughts so I didn’t want to be redundant.
A few random notes about my show open:
-I was going for something less “BSG” and more “Caprica” so I obviously started with recreating the logo typeface for Capricast to look like the Caprica title font. (ITC Elan -modified)
-Final color grade consists of Cyan/Greens in the beginning similar to the Caprica open, and warmer colors for the cut footage and headshots.
-I wanted to keep the open less than 20 seconds as anything longer would have been annoying and folks might get tired of it quickly.
-Bear McCreary’s excellent score for the Caprica open allowed me to time the cuts well for a smooth lead-in to the “Matt + Nat” title card.
-Completed the first cut in about 8 total hours, and only needed a few extra hours for simple revisions.
To see my current Motion & Title reel, I believe you can just click on my name in the top of the post.
Thanks again Matt & Nat for the opportunity to contribute, and I look forward to the next Capricast!
Izzy

Matt & Nat, I need my Capricast weekly review, please….
March 16th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
I hope you make this clear on the cap cast. That viper is not necessarily the MK1.The MK1 is still probably the tos style viper which was shown briefly in Galactica museum in the mini series.Besides this viper looked atmospheric only and not space based.Mabey the space vipers are different.Like the ones we know.Or they were designed by another colony.Like Tauron. This Viper could be the Caprican viper while the MK1 Viper could be the Tauron(or some other colonys) viper.Basically they could just call all fighters in the colonies Vipers.I also wouldnt be suprised if the first “viper” was an old style bi plane made of wood.

I vote for Team Izzy! I loved how each character was highlighted and we got music from the show in the background.

Izzy for sure

Sweet, thanks for the votes all:)
I’m glad you liked it.
Scroll up to see a post I made earlier today about the sequence.
Thanks again.

Team Izzy!
March 16th, 2010 at 8:24 pm
My vote is for Team Izzy. The second one is way too short.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:52 pm
Team Izzy. I liked the idea of using Capricas intro. Caprica is the main part of Capricast so why not show that. I feel the other one was too short. Go team Izzy
March 16th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Team Izzy! The intro captures the flavor of the show, it’s witty (loved Greystone’s “Welcome Back”) and well produced.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Okay, here’s my review on both the openings.
Team Izzy-
Pros- When you look at this, you get the feeling that Izzy actually took the time to put a little work into it.
Cons- The opening and ending “videos” of Zoey and Daniel Graystone, to me, seems rather distracting.
Team Chuck Norris-
Pros- It’s good looking and reminds me much of the BSGCast opening.
Cons- Way too short and it looks like something that was whipped up in a couple of hours.
My vote: Team Izzy. Excellent job.
I greatly apologize to Team Chuck Norris, I do not mean any offense when it comes to my comments. It’s just that it looks too simplistic in its design. I hope that my criticism and hopefully learn with it, and maybe one day constructing something so complex and beautiful. Don’t let what I say as something that deters you from your passion.
March 16th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
I vote for putting the Team Izzy video at the beginning and the Team Chuck Norris video at the very end of each CapriCast. Both are appropriate for these spots. Kudos to both teams.
March 16th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Team Izzy’s looked great and I would vote for it if it wasn’t SO LONG! Because of that, my vote goes to Team Chuck Norris. I’m hear to watch Matt and Nat, not the intro. (Again, if Izzy’s were half the length, it would have my vote).
March 16th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Team Izzy. By your command.
March 16th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Don’t forget it was mentioned or hinted in an earlier episode that they have other U87s built but they didn’t work, only the Zoe U87 is the one fully functional. So the race is on to recreate what works in the Zoe U87.
I don’t think Vergis will steal any of Graystones U87s as in his mind they are flawed, As Vergis believes he has the only working MCPs. I still believe Virgis is out to hurt Daniel but not by taking the U87 but by really taking the Bucs. We see how Daniel reacts to the idea of selling the team when Cyrus mentioned it, Daniel got quite upset.
Everyone has mentioned about the Dog knowing Zoe. It is believed by many that dogs have very keen senses and some believe dogs and other animals can see dead people or spirits etc, I think this is what is betrayed in this episode. The dog sees Zoe’s spirit and interacts with her as it does not seemed threaten by the U87 at all.
March 16th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Thanks much for your comments/votes all!
NOTE to CB2001 & MikeStopContinues:
If my open wins, and if Matt & Nat want me to, I’ll deliver a recut version with the Zoey and Daniel Graystone portions removed.
This will chop the total length of the open about in half down to 10-12 quick seconds:)
Thanks again all for your constructive responses and votes!

Thanks Brian D., that’s what I was going for:)

March 16th, 2010 at 10:38 pm
Hey everyone,
It has more of an intro feeling, and I guess it’s just more intriguing.
I’d like to cast my vote for the Capricast opening. I vote for team Chuck Norris.
I find that intro more catching and original. It achieves it’s goal completely – grabs my attention with the eerie infinity symbol, excites me, and at that point, when I’m ready to see Mat and Nat, it let’s me
Anyways, hope everyone’s enjoying Caprica and Capricast. Toodles!
March 16th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
I love Team Izzy! And yes, the episodes are becoming more and more intriguing! I absolutely love the show!
March 16th, 2010 at 11:18 pm
you guys bring up some pretty good points about the delphic looney bin/prophet factory. will Amanda’s brother, i believe his name was Darious or something, be showing up at all maybe as a head charictor, will it cause her to go back to that hospitol, which i wouldn’t be suprised, and hope it actualy is, the same hospital that the cylons later take over as the breeding farm 58 years hence. the way Zoe speaks of the V-world seems like she’s thinking of a way to actualy make a more “tangable” form of heaven, an afterlife that is more than just spiritualy conseptual. i think i know what Clareese wants with Zoe’s avatar, she wants to become imortal. this is the beginings of resurection people, “all of this has happened before…,” on kobol. now the colonals, spisificaly those of them who are exploring the relms of monothyism, are searching for a form of afterlife. in the case of Claireese, she seems to want to reach a state of imortality, reserection. the V-world is not the precurser to projection, but the “miracullus place betweene life and death” which is the jumping off point for resurection. the colonial cylons/Zoe/STO were able to get half way to actual resurection by figureing out a way to upload into the major nexus matrex, but couldnt figure out how to re-download into a new boddy, that and they didn’t know how to make new flesh and bone boddies, that, in part is where the final five come in to compleete thier desires. i also think claireese sees this as an opertunity to iethher diafy, make her self a prophet, make herself into an angel of a sort, or attain sainthood amongst the followers of The One True G-d. Also, wouldn’t it be cool if Dirk Benadict was the shadowed digure in the confessional. Resurection is the ultimate goal of the STO because to them that means immortality. oh, and the woman who reviels herself as Yuseeff’s new guide to NCC is the fat gothgirl who let Tammi into the Laionii Rulett room. (precurser to present day Russan Rullet) one more thing, i think i know why the STO members keep wanting to get to Geminon, its where, as mentioned by the Quorum member in the last season of BSG there are cults that practise ideas that are very close to actual monothyism. it is where sto can practised undisturbed, something tells me that at least part of geminese scocity has a high tolorence for religious diversity.
to the vote:
the first one was cool but kinda took too much from the actual show opening, but did have cool music. however i dont think i like the idea of matt and natt’s heads being depicted on gravestones, kinda morbid. the other one cool with the infinity but kinda boring, would be good if theres a bit of a meshing, like start credit with the first and end credit with the second. would also be cool if they had the tauron theme as part of the music. if showing matt and natt’s pics then jsut show them in the cut corner photos.
also they better show little Willy on a farm during one sommer, it seems like his uncles Sam and Larry are city folk, Sam being tied up with the Ha la Thah so Sharron better have a brother on tauron or Aerolon or Virgon or some place with a farm for willey to visit for a summer to back up the Old Man’s story to Tigh in season 4
so say we all
March 16th, 2010 at 11:23 pm
Hmmmm… which one to vote for… which one… hmmmm…
Team Izzy’s is awesome but Team Chuck Norris realized that an intro should be just an intro so…
TEAM CHUCK NORRIS gets my vote. I don’t think I want to watch Team Izzy’s 50 more times over the next few years.
March 17th, 2010 at 12:18 am
I am going for Team Izzy; my only prob was that last shot of Daniel looking into Zoe’s eye; it made it less impactful. However, Team Chuck Norris’ was not long enough to feel the impact of the STO symbol; it needed to be longer so you could “feel it”, and the power of that symbol to this series.
Either way, 2 great ideas, w/2 totally diff’t directions. Nicely chosen Matt & Natt.

Team Izzy got my vote, just looks like it had more work done to it, plus i just love the Zoe bit in the beginnning.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:19 am
I have to put my vote in for Izzy, her intro was provocative and did a nice a job of introducing our two hosts for capricats while giving a nice look to the show. I also liked how she included the theme music from the opening of caprica.
March 17th, 2010 at 2:14 am
Greetings! Many thanks to Matt & Nat for selecting my title entry as one of the two finalists. I’m feel honored to be nominated!
As some have already mentioned, I approached the title as something that plays quickly – to get into the program. The thought of using the STO infinity symbol drew from the computer sheets Zoe and Lacy used to access v-world.
Great work, Izzy! Thanks again Matt & Nat, and thank you all for your comments and votes!
March 17th, 2010 at 2:51 am
Team Chuck Norris, clean and simple!
March 17th, 2010 at 3:16 am
first, great review!
second, I vote for team Izzy (good job to Chuck Norris too!!).
March 17th, 2010 at 3:17 am
You too Chuck!
Izzy
March 17th, 2010 at 3:29 am
Chuck Norris all the way! Short, punchy and gorgeous! It’s the web and it’s on-demand. Gotta be brief!
March 17th, 2010 at 3:42 am
My vote goes to Izzy. It’s on the long side, but I really like it!
March 17th, 2010 at 3:52 am
i cant seem to find the link to either of the promo vid’s
can some1 post 1?
March 17th, 2010 at 5:13 am
I vote for Izzy
P.s I got excited when I saw the BSG shaped paper Amanda’s Delphic letter was on rather that the boring normal shaped I’m sure they had in the earlier episodes. Am I a little too sad or what?
March 17th, 2010 at 5:27 am
Ok I am officially Kirsty queen of the nerd people. I found a clip in BSG Season 4 episode 4 Escape velocity where Baltar is giving his speech at the end about loving yourself, and when they pan over the crowd I could see the old woman who also plays Willy’s grandmother.
March 17th, 2010 at 7:01 am
Another vote for Izzy.
Also, many thanks for Capricast and BSGCast before it – I love the work you two do. Always first on my RSS feed.
Can I make one PEDANT point though? In the titles, there shouldn’t be an apostrophe. You are talking about “The Graystones”, not “The Graystone’s” which is the possessive. The Graystone’s what?!
Sorry, drives me nuts every time!
March 17th, 2010 at 7:07 am
Team Izzy!
I like the intro, it’s really COol!
March 17th, 2010 at 9:47 am
I vote for TEAM CHUCK NORRIS.
Izzy intro: Clever repurposing of clips from the show, although the ‘ST’ in the title looks tacked on to me (not quite the same weight/spacing as the rest of the letters). It’s also a bit long for a podcast intro — just one of the clips would be enough.
Chuck Norris intro: Nice visual evocation of both the new series (with the infinity symbol) and its predecessor (FTL flash). Perfect length.
A point to consider about Izzy’s intro: I assume SyFy has a ‘fan-friendly’ terms of use clause regarding content created by them, but could it change in the future, and if so, could they then come after the Capricast team? I know Paramount used to be pretty paranoid about ‘fans’ using content from Star Trek, and I wouldn’t want my favorite podcast to land in hot legal waters.
March 17th, 2010 at 9:59 am
> Can I make one PEDANT point though? In the titles, there shouldn’t be an apostrophe. You are talking about “The Graystones”, not “The Graystone’s” which is the possessive.
I also find it annoying. The weird thing is they got it right in Capricast 3 or 4, then reverted back to the greengrocer’s apostrophe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe) afterwards for some reason…
March 17th, 2010 at 10:48 am
I vote for: Team Chuck Norris…
Also! Why did they have to make the viper some freeky f-16 viper MKII combo? couldn’t they of gone with the old series viper (Like they did in the min-series)
March 17th, 2010 at 11:25 am
It’s great to see such feverish voting on the intros! The YouTube vid has gone bonkers with voting comments, too!
Just a quick note about the apostrophe: I’m not sure if it’s an American English vs. Canadian/British English thing, but up here, when a family is referred to by their surname to represent the entire group, it’s always with an apostrophe… it’s funny, in the Wiki article is deals with possessive Family names, but not plural family names. So it’s kind of wishy-washy on that element too…
We even had a few e-mails telling us we were wrong when I forgot them in episodes 3 and 4!
Maybe we can have another vote on whether to include the apostrophe
~Matt
March 17th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
I vote for team chuck norris, their intro actually looked more professional and there’s something to be said for short intros that just get to the point.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
love the beginning of team izzy – however – i too think it’s too long.. and since i want to continue listening to nat introducing themselves (izzy kinda takes that away from her) my vote goes to the gorgeous, simple, stylish and effective team chuck norris!
on another topic:
would be really interested to know if this time around the main story arch – all the way to the end – has already been written in stone.. since we all know how it ends this time. is there any info on that somewhere out there? any mention by mr. moore?
cheers
gernot
March 17th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Oh, why must you make us choose? They’re both so good!
I liked Izzy’s, with the Zoe and Daniel parts. That was great, but Chuck Norris…that was just so cool!
I’d say use them both, use one as a intro, and the other for an ending. That way, everybody wins!
March 17th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
I vote for Team Izzy’s entry. Why? One word: Epic.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
I have to vote for team izzy.
Its really will made, SYFY could nearly use this as a promo.
March 17th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
My vote has to go to Team Izzy. Love the style (e.g. colour, music, etc.)
March 17th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
Team Izzy FTW!
March 17th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
CHUCK FTW!!!
March 17th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
Both are really great.
But I like Time Izzy’s submission the best.
March 17th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
Yeah umm… I’m usually the guy that says less is more. But taking a clip playing it and then reversing it doesn’t quite cut it for me.
The LOST title sequence… BADASS.
TEAM IZZY FTW hands down & FCN.
March 17th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
Well I would vote Team Chuck Norris:
Because as cool as the Izzy’s opening was….is that Capricast? I mean it seems a little too dark for you guys. I don’t know maybe if you guys wore darker clothing and wore fadora hats it would fit. But you guys are very lighthearted and Norris’ is lighter.
Not saying that Izzy’s opening was not cool, but it just didn’t seem to fit. I mean seeing that before each Capricast it would seem…out of place. I don’t know…maybe I could be wrong…
Well, here’s hoping for a great next episode.
March 17th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Enough with the apostrophes already.
March 17th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
team izzy all the way way better
March 17th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Fayth has the right idea, use them both, Izzy’s as intro, Chuck’s as closing. But, if forced to choose, I pick Izzy.
March 17th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
This was a nice episode, but not as good as the previous one!
I vote for izzy! Why? I just like it
March 17th, 2010 at 8:05 pm
Obviously the overwhelming majority will pick Team Izzy’s submission, but I believe that’s only because of its polished look.
I’m leaning towards Team Chuck. Reasons? The brevity and inclusion of the STO symbol (a nice graphic image to tie into).
Team Izzy’s goes on for tooooooo long–it almost seems like Team Izzy had 2 submissions but they forgot to separate them before they sent their entries in.
Actually, the best solution would be a combination. What if you had the Zoe video opening from T.I. then a quick transition to the STO symbol and the podcast I.D.? Cut out all the superfluous video…it’s unnecessary and confusing. You’d end up with a nice balance of character and graphic imagery that won’t make your viewers want to hit the FF button.
Even though you didn’t really offer my suggestion as an option, it’s getting my vote anyway.
March 17th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
Team Izzy
March 17th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
I vote for Team Izzy! but is that supposed to be like Izzy from “Grey’s Anatomy” or something?!
The name of the team might bite the big one, but that intro is seriously intense and makes you feel suspense. It reminds me of playing “Final Cut” on Sega CD when I was 13. Its like having hidden cameras around the house; getting that mysterious hidden view of goings on… mixed with all the excitement and intrigue.
Team Izzy!!!
as well, that would rock is B’Elanna was doing the next ep.
March 18th, 2010 at 12:15 am
I noticed that our casts sat right next to each other on BlipTV’s most popular today list. I felt so honored.
I was so excited by it… I am such a geek.
March 18th, 2010 at 9:17 am
I vote for putting the Team Izzy video at the beginning and the Team Chuck Norris video at the very end of each CapriCast.
If i had to choose one I would say Izzy but its about 2.5 seconds too long.
Chuck Norris’s clip isnt long enough. But its only off a sweet spot by, again, about 2.5 seconds.
March 18th, 2010 at 7:42 pm
Izzy as intro, Chuck as outro!
March 18th, 2010 at 7:45 pm
On second thought – is there any way we could do the Izzy video without the Zoey and Daniel parts on either end?
March 18th, 2010 at 10:01 pm
I’m really diggin’ both intros. izzy’s pretty awesome, but chuck norris is totally classic. its just a wee bit short. it could use better music maybe? idk its really good tho. grr!
THIS IS MY OFFICIAL VOTE- I’ll have to go chuck norris!
i just had an idea tho! what if you used chuck norris for every episode, but you used izzy for major episodes, like the season premiere? then its like, welcome back to the show, this is a big one. you know? just a thought. i think it would be awesome.
March 18th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
oh i forgot my reasons. izzy’s is just a tad too long, and i don’t know if i like having the clips from the show in it. but i don’t want to ignore it because its awesome. i love the part that says “Capricast” very cool very well done.
but chuck norris is a little more like what i pictured as the intro. i loved the STO symbol and everything, and it reminded me of the BSG intro which was absolutely amazing. The only drawbacks are that its a bit too short and it needs better music. and maybe bigger letters, but thats just me being nit-picky. ha ha I voted for norris, its awesome
March 18th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
I think Jon’s idea is good. Have Izzy’s scene for the opening and Chucks for the ending. It’s perfect!
March 19th, 2010 at 1:40 am
I vote for Izzy’s start video. LOVE the editing man, you had alot of really good moments!
March 19th, 2010 at 10:12 am
Hi,
I say use both too – Izzy’s to open and Chuck’s to end. Way to go!
Re. apostrophes, in your usage Matt and Nat, it is plural and none should be used. Apostrophes are only for possessive and contractions (the exception being its possessive; it’s is for the contraction ‘it is’ only). When an apostrophe is used with a family name, as in a sign on a house, apostrophes are used correctly. For example, the sign says – The Mitchell’s – and it’s referring to the fact that this is the Mitchell’s house/home/residence, but the house/home/residence is dropped (it’s implied).
Re. the ep, it was great. Loved the dog scene and the ’should I be jealous scene.’ Those two have a great relationship. They really love each other and trust and forgive each other. It’s fascinating. I too have been really frustrated with the multiple motivations, but once you go with it, it works. But I am glad Sam the uncle and the Tauron stuff is drying up – who cares about mob stuff and melodrama over ‘you’re losing your son’ and tattoos. It’s just cheesey. Let’s keep to the technology interactions with human culture and development, the questions about consciousness, morality, etc.
March 19th, 2010 at 10:16 am
I vote for Team Izzy … but the idea to use Izzy as intro e Chuck norris as outro is very good!!! Well done to both teams!!!
March 19th, 2010 at 10:22 am
I say Team Izzy. I love the intro of Zoe. Awesome.
Love that Caprica is getting up and running here. Though I was a bit confused, because well that was a fail on my part for skipping a episode. But I caught up and am ready for the next one!
March 19th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Team Chuck Norris
March 19th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
Izzy… only if it’s cut by half. Up to the part where CAPRICAST compresses into frame and illuminates.
March 19th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
TEAM IZZY!!!!!!
March 19th, 2010 at 10:25 pm
I vote for team Chuck Norris…the other one is too long and I don’t really like the soft music at the end…
March 20th, 2010 at 2:56 am
Chuck Norris team gets my vote!
March 20th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
Team Izzy!
March 20th, 2010 at 11:49 pm
Thanks again for all the votes and edit suggestions everyone!
Keep them coming!

The new girl in New Cap City is his assistant IRL. I called it!
March 22nd, 2010 at 1:58 pm
I like the Team Izzy one but I think it’s a bit long to watch every week. Maybe cut out the part from the Caprica opening sequence and it would be a good length.
Ultimately I lean towards the Team Chuck Norris, though it could be slightly longer …
My vote is for Team Chuck Norris.
March 22nd, 2010 at 6:21 pm
Ok, here we go:
1) Team Izzy..they rocked it!
2) Isn’t the face Barnabas?
3) I believe Emanuelle is Joe Adamas blonde haired counselor friend that helped him find Herc.
I am absolutely loving this show more and more each week! The character development is moving along sweetly. Many of the characters that I hadn’t connected with previously have now come into light and are all just very intriguing.
I think my favorite character thus far has got to be Daniel. Eric Stolz has always been a great actor and I truly believe he was made for this part (and vice versa). Clarice still freaks me out a bit. I have a harder time believing in her monotheistic values as she’s hitting a bong or hitting on Amanda. It’s just too creepy for me at this point. I’m sure her development is forthcoming.
At any rate I am really enjoying Caprica and I am very happy to see it doing well. For those of you interested, after you check in here at Capricast you are invited to a free membership at BSGPilots.com I currently have some awesome news articles up over there regarding the future of BSG. Registration is free and we always have a good time in our live chat room.

Thanks for the votes all!
