CONFIRMED: BSG TeleMovie in 2009!
We’re pretty excited about this one:
–
SCI FI Channel announced an all-new “Battlestar Galactica” special event, set to air in 2009 following the conclusion of the series and then released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment shortly thereafter. Directed by series star Edward James Olmos and written by “Battlestar Galactica’s” Jane Espenson, the two-hour event will begin shooting in Vancouver at the end of this summer. The cast includes Michael Trucco, Aaron Douglas and Dean Stockwell, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
Starting before the events of the miniseries, our story focuses on familiar characters including Cylon Number One, known as Cavil (Stockwell), Resistance Leader Sam T. Anders (Trucco) and Chief Galen Tyrol (Douglas). In the beginning, the Cylons had a plan, but it didn’t account for one thing: survivors. During the chaotic aftermath of the destruction, two powerful Cylon agents struggle with plots and priorities on the human ships that got away, and among the resistance fighters who were left behind.
–
We don’t know about you guys, but Aaron Douglas looks pretty damn different than he did in 2003… but everyone else could pull off a prequel pretty easily. And having Eddie direct it is perfect… we’ll have to ask him about in this month at FanExpo Toronto!
Thanks to Pavlov’s Dog for posting it in the comments yesterday!

Sweet! Saw Katee Sackhoff this afternoon in the tv-movie ‘Fifteen and pregnant’ starring Kristen Dunst as the main character. Katee played a single, teenage mother who comes to a special centre for teenmothers to explain her diar situation. The movie is supposed to be made in 1998. I think Katee must have been eigtheen at the time. It was a short cameo, but very nice to see her looking that young and sweet!
A special BSG movie, how nice. I think Razor was amazing, And I can’t wait tot see Caprica, end now this one! The Sci Fi Channel is going to have a kick ass year in 2009!

This sounds very exciting! I love how they are going to tie in the live before the big attack. It might answer a few questions we have all had. Keep the information flowing.

I have seen speculation that because Katee Sackoff has been pursued to be in this production that she must therefore be the final cylon. That doesn’t follow, because if Anders is going to be in it (same character) then Starbuck will need to be there as well.
August 11th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Wow what great news!
It’s true that Aaron Douglas looks different, mainly because he gained some weight. Nothing says he can’t lose the weight now
A lot of characters changed. Just look at Caprica Six, who started off without a wig… and now, her hair is very, very different. Some things can be helped, but you never know.
I’m SO very glad to know we’ll still get a bit of our dose of BSG after the end of Season 4!!!

Few random thoughts:
The main thing I hope they will explain is what exactly was the cylon “Plan”
It does keep Starbuck in play as the final five since it is supposed to be focused on cylons.
Cavil and Anders could have good backstories since we don’t know much about them but Tyrol will be harder because we already saw what he was doing before, during and after the attack. I wonder how far back they will go with Anders. I’d love to see Caprica six go to a pyramid game (as told in Pegasus) and she goes to see Anders play. Or will they do like they did with Razor and just fill in the blanks with an established backstory: he trains in the mountains with the bucaneers, the attack happens, he forms the resistance and ends up on galactica?

Coolness!! I was hoping for something like this. Yeeessss. Hey, I caught an online interview of Katee Sackhoff being interviewed at Comic Con by Access Hollywood, and when asked if she was going to be involved in any further “movies” and such, she answered “No.” But who knows, she may not have been asked to do a BSG movie at the time, OR she simply didn’t want to give anything away. In any case, this is great news! Can’t yet get enough of BSG. The months are going to simply drag by…..UGH.
When the interviewer (who actually said “Tom Jarek” instead of “Zarek”) told her that he thinks the Final Cylon is Tigh’s wife Ellen, she gave him a look of utmost incredulity and looked at him as if to say, “Uh, lame! Totally way off, dude!” And when the interviewer said then that he supposes it could also be Richard Hatch’s character, she cast him another look of, “Way off.” And then she ended the interview by saying “You’ll never guess. You’ll never guess.”
I “guess” it’s someone who will blow us away by how minor and insignificant they are. Hmmm……only time will tell.
My vote’s still on Kendra Shaw.

Whilst more BSG has to be good, it has to BE good. Having the franchise eked out like Babylon 5 will not be good at all. A finish to the BSG series would be at the end of series 5(or 4.5, whatever) Then news of a spin off set in the past seems OK. Now extra movies – I must be honest, I’m sighing not jumping for glee.
I’m watching Firefly at the moment, for the first time, and everytime the credits roll I cry inside. I know there will be no more of a quality product. I don’t want to be in a situation where I watch BSG next year and think “I hope they answer [question x] in the next movie”. There is a worry that the story will be compromised and the short films will just be cash cows like the Stargate extras and the B5 films.
Quality! not quantity!
PS Pavlov’s God – I don’t think the plan ever was “5 series, a spin off and some extra films!”
August 15th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
i’m on the fence with this one. as much as i’d like to see some more BSG i’m wondering what the point would be. is it to fill in gaps from the regular seasons or will they give us more background info on the cylons? if it focused on the cylon homeworld and their evolution over the last 40 yrs then i’m for it, but if they’re not gonna give us anything new then why bother?
August 17th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
I don’t think B5 can be simplified like that, Redrhyski… B5 was a five year plan, that was compromised down to 4 years due to studio decisions, and then expanded back out to 5 years due to last minute studio decisions. But the spin offs and movies have all been cash-grabs, for sure.
B5 always had poor episode-craft, but the series-craft was brilliant. One writer for over 100 episodes? You can’t beat that kind of vision. BSG has brilliant episode-craft, but the very notion that RDM had no idea where the series was going when he wrote the pilot means that B5 will retain the title of ‘best execution of a televised story ever” in my book. No matter how bad-ass the ending of BSG is
B5 is hallowed ground for me

So I went back and watched all the DVD sets again, and I came across some interesting connections (and I’m sure some have been noticed here, too – I just don’t always keep up with you guys). I typed up a little explanation of a working theory and supplimented it with pictures. It can be found here:

Fan of the week in five months? XD

Matt,
I always tread on someone’s toes when I start analogising (apparently that is a word!) with B5! For me it’s the only worthy comparison to the modern BSG, and that is a compliment to both. I’m sure more toes will be flattened when we all gather and comment on how good the remake of Firefly is in 10 years time {ducks for cover}.
I do agree with the points you make. The arc in B5 was excellent, like BSG. I wouldn’t want to name 100 episodes, let alone write them!
On another note, what’s happened to the Cylon plan? Like all plans it probably didn’t survive contact with the enemy…. “Hey lets nuke them from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure” “Oh, what about the ones in transit?….doh!” No-one’s mentioned it for a while.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Hi Brian,
Don’t mean to be a spoilsport, but we all should be careful not to download documents etc. from places we aren’t sure about. Can you post your theory and pictures instead? I would like to have a look at them but I am not downloading unknown source files – no offence to you intended!!
Re. a movie that will air after BSG is over, hey it’s BSG and with writers and directors that are gods, how can ya go wrong?
Re. B5, I must give it a try. Never have…even a few minutes.

Tootie,
Sure! Just give me a while to upload the images at photobucket and I’ll post the text with links to those images.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Oh, and there are some italics and such in the document that can’t be duplicated here. Also, you won’t have to keep clicking on links if you dl the document – it’s all right there on the page. But if you really must, here’s the safe man’s version:
BSG: My theory (I know, all of this has happened before
) – Brian LaGuardia – Part I (yeah, long theory)
This may be totally off, but should spark some interesting discussion at least. Before getting into the theory I believe most credible, let’s look at the huge prophetic monologue from the hybrid in “Razor”:
At last, they’ve come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. The denial of the one true path, played out on a world not their own, will end soon enough.
So from his place in the timeline, New Caprica hasn’t happened yet. This could be a literal reference to those events (the one true path being finding Earth rather than settling on this planet). This could also, however, refer to their religious beliefs or something even more cryptic. In any case, it’s supplimental to what I’m getting at.
Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, the pain of revelation bringing new clarity.
Our four cylons revealed at the tail end of season 3. Interesting that he knows this, despite it being before that in the plot line (chronologically). This seems to indicate for certain that he sees the “patterns” in history, similar to Leoben, which will be discussed later.
and in the midst of confusion, he will find her. Enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined. The way forward once unthinkable, yet inevitable.
In hindsight, we can see that this probably refers to Kara and Leoben from “The Road Less Travelled,” as this lead to an eventual alliance with a cylon faction. This seems to indicate that war and peace are part of the cycle, and that piece is unthinkable at this point, yet inevitable because it’s part of the cycle.
And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering.
A final cylon clue, but it’s really not what I’m going to discuss here.
I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin, but in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into the many, and then they will join the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning.
Once again, hindsight tells us that a cylon civil war will break out, which is obviously what he’s talking about. The section, however, after “into the many” is the key of this whole monologue. The “promised land” and “angel” in question are going to be huge players in the final moments of the show, because they set the cycle up for the next iteration.
Another interesting point is that they are “self-described” machines. Are they REALLY machines? Or do they simply THINK they are? Remember, there aren’t a whole lot of differences between advanced cylon models and humans. Anyway, that was a tangent, and would be difficult to explain away. Onto the theory.
Rivers and Streams
This basically says that reality isn’t what it seams – that the “promised land” is actually only accessible by dying. This can mean either heaven (lame) or some fraked-up twist that will turn reality on its head Rod Sterling style (awesome). It’s very open-ended; maybe they’re in a matrix-style setup right now. Whatever they find after death will complete the picture. Now this is not a new theory, but I’ve found an overwhelming number of little hints that coincide with it after watching the show over again (as I wait…and wait, and wait for new episodes). Let’s start from the beginning.
“Flesh And Bone” from season 1 was basically where all this spiritual mumbo-jumbo started, and there are some very interesting things that are there for those who are paying attention. It is obvious that Leoben seems to have a better understanding of this situation, perhaps even the answers himself. Let’s take a look at some of the shtuff he says.
To know the face of God is to know madness. I see the universe. I see the past. I see the foreshadowing that precedes every moment of every day. It’s all there. I see it and you don’t. And I have a surprise for you. I have something to tell you about the future. But we have to see this through to the end {crop] I told you I had a surprise for you. Are you ready? You’re gonna find Kobol, birthplace of us all. Kobol will lead you to Earth. This is my gift to you, Kara.
There’s a chance that he is just playing off of scripture, but for the sake of this theory, we’re going to assume that he can indeed see the future (because that’s exactly what has happened, and he seems to be wanting to genuinely help her throughout the show). Also note that his monologue about Kara’s mother was repeated in a later episode, and was also quite accurate (as the oracle said, Kara told nobody about that). He can indeed see patterns that others do not see, it seems.
All of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again. You kneel before idols and ask for guidance and you can’t see that your destiny’s already been written. Each of us plays a role, each time a different role. Maybe last time I was the interrogator and you were the prisoner. The players change; the story remains the same.
Here’s a reference to the frequently stated cycle of time. Not only that, it appears that everyone has a destiny and “role.”
What is the most basic article of faith? This is not all that we are. See, the difference between you and me is that I know what that means and you don’t. I know that I’m more than this body, more than this consciousness. A part of me swims in the stream, but in truth, I’m standing on the shore. The current never takes me downstream.
The theme of “this is not all that we are” is another recurring one, echoed by the same character in season 4. But the really interesting thing about this is the “stream,” echoed in season 4 not even by him, but by Baltar – a completely different character. Let’s skip ahead to the season 4 episode to which I am referring, called “Faith.” What do you notice about the ferry that takes Emily across the “river” that “separates this world from the next,” according to Baltar?:

Part II (da** those cliffhangers
)
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j285/jangoisbaddest/BSGTheory/BSG1.jpg
Hm, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Let’s check the numbers on our known cylon models (and since we know there are indeed 12 models, we can stop the list there):
1 – Cavil
2 – Leoben
3 – D’Anna
4 – Simon
5 – Doral
6 – Caprica/Shelly/Natalie/Gods know what else
7 – Unknown
8 – Sharon
9, 10, 11, 12 – Unknown
There’s an interesting coincidence. If we assume 7 is the final cylon, that means that four of the final five (the “four, glorious in awakening”) are represented symbolically in this sequence, either as guiding the ferry or the ferry itself. This is further supported by the following….
Remember this line from the same episode from Emily, as she recalls what happened in her dream?:
And I heared a voice…it said, “don’t be scared, Emily. I’m with you.”
And now Ander’s line in the same episode, one of the “four, glorious in awakening,” as he kneels upon an 8 who is very near death and dies shortly afterward:
It’s okay. I’m with you.
It seems to me that the final five have their purpose or “role” defined: to guide souls from this world into the next, across the stream.
Getting back to the stream, Baltar says it’s the stream that “separates this world from the next.” Now, I’m prepared to make the leap that says this is the “space between life and death,” as quoted by head Leoben in “Maelstrom,” because of what Leoben the cylon says in Flesh and Bone:
A part of me swims in the stream, but in truth, I’m standing on the shore. The current never takes me downstream.
He is a cylon. What do cylons do? They resurrect. They don’t die, and therefore cannot traverse the “river” and arrive at the “other realm.” He’s also partially swimming in the stream because he DOES die many times over….just never completes the journey, or allows the current to take him downstream due to resurrection.
Now, remember Kara’s role as the “harbinger of death?” It seems well-established since “Guess What’s Coming to Dinner” that this means she was responsible for finding the rebels and in turn allowing them to combine forces to destroy the resurrection hub, wiping out the ability for EVERYONE to resurrect. “Harbinger of death” is now not as ominous and foreboding, as this simply means that cylons can now cross the river like humans can, into the other realm.
And now, what happened to Starbuck? Simple. She died. What is it that Leoben told her in her dream sequence in “Maelstrom?”
You saw the Mandala in the Clouds, but you didn’t tell anyone. Because you’re drawn to it. You want to fly into it, to cross over. But you’re afraid [crop] of the unknown. Of death.

This isn’t working well. It’s too big to not be recognized as spam. xD There are more parts to come.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Yeah, it’s not letting me post big chunks anymore. I’d either ask that the webmaster allow for a larger post in my case (temporarily, as you can see it’s not spam), or that everyone downloads the Office 07 document (unless anyone has any other suggestions).

Thanks!
You inspired me to go back and start from the beginning last night (finished the miniseries) and it’s a good thing to do to prepare for the final episodes.

I downloaded your file (funny, I trust you now haha) and I agree that death seems to be a big part of things and deserves more attention. I don’t know what to make of all of this, but death certainly seems to be central to many characters right now.
Roslin with her cancer and talking to Emily; believes she’s the dying leader
Galen, with his suicidal thoughts and Cally’s death, doesn’t seem to care if he lives or dies
Sam with the dying 8 on the cylon ship, clearly has a fascination with death
Sharon, worried that somehow Hera is going to get harmed or taken away from her murdered Natalie
Natalie’s eerie death, with the forest above her
Adama dealing with Roslin’s impending demise
Kara’s ‘death’ and reappearance, her mother’s death, the prophesies of the hybrids and Leoben: ‘harbinger of death’ etc.
All I know is that they have to tie up Kara (what is she and where did she go?), Earth (is that planet it or not?), the evil cylons (are they coming back to wage war or make peace?), who is the final cylon, will the cycle continue or be broken? Other questions, such as will Starbuck end up with Lee, etc. won’t be answered I don’t think.
The way the actors speak about the ending gives me goosebumps. Thank the gods for RDM is all I have to say. The waiting, the waiting!!
August 19th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Haha, thanks Tootie.
Oh, and for those of you who don’t wish to download a file, I managed to get the entire thing on a forum post, which can be found here:

This is such a good show it’s hurting me be aware that this is the last season.
I’m happy to know there will be the spin-off serie and the movie, but thinking over, I’d be very happy to see the real prequel: the first cylon war.
We have seen the final operation, some of the skirmish on Tauron now, wouldn’t be kick ass to see how everything started?

Help please!
Aaron Douglas is coming to FanExpo – but I have looked and looked and it doesn’t say Sat. or Sunday…anyone? Thanks a bunch.

Mick, I agree the only way to go is to show the first cylon war. I like smart dramas, but I would like a smart drama with fighting spacecraft better. It will be odd to have BSG without an Adama as an anchor though. Maybe we can follow Tigh who was in the first cylon war (maybe, depending on what the F5 backstory turns out to be).

Gahhh! That’s it. I’ve just finished watching Firefly/Serenity. What else of quality can I watch over the autumn/winter?
August 21st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Easy. Watch BSG DVD sets. XD
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:52 am
But just to play devil’s advocate for a moment, B5 missed something that I think is the real strength of BSG (and something Ron Moore has the grace and ego-lack to acknowledge) — a very smart writer’s room, who bring their very different (yet complimentary) talents to every script. And while JMS didn’t win two Hugos by having sex with every voter, I don’t know if a single writer and an over-determined structure wasn’t something of a mixed blessing. No diserespect to anyone involved (especially Patricia Tallman), but I just fast forward through the telepath arc in season five.

After seeing this i decided to give it a try to this TV Show. I`m already on episode 5 and it looks great. Thanks a lot admin !
