FAN EXPO: Q&A with Edward James Olmos – Part 1
Eddie and Aaron did a Q&A Session at Fan Expo Canada on Sunday, as well as signed autographs and chatted with fans. Last year we got to shoot Tricia Helfer’s Q&A and posted it here, and good news, we’ll be ding the same for this one! It was a good session… and LONG. So we’ll break it up into 3 parts and post it up here ASAP!
Thanks to everyone who stopped us and said hi while were rocking out SAVE BALTAR T-Shirts at the show! Aaron was pretty taken aback by Nat in hers
PS. We’d love to give a special thank-you to Ryan Fox from www.RGBfilter.com for asking about Eddie and Aaron’s take on the bar scene from Escape Velocity!

I am driving four hours to get there! See you tomorrow!!

When Eddie said the ending would be ‘heartbreaking’ and twisted and that many if not most characters will die, there was a pretty much silence in the hall. Heartbreaking? Deep down I knew already it will break my heart and frack with my head, but to hear him say it…that was hard. As much as we all LOVE this show, we are not looking forward to our hearts breaking. Most of us anyway. But happy endings are for Star Trek.
I think his comment about Decker being a replicant in Blade Runner (which I don’t think was at all clear in the film) and not knowing it was interesting. There was dead silence when he said that by the way! (IMO, I don’t agree. The origami sign that EJO’s character in that movie left at Deckert’s apt. to show he had been there was nothing more than him saying ‘I could have killed Rachel and I didn’t. And I won’t. You are free to go.” It didn’t say Deckert you are a replicant and too stupid to realize it and I am letting you go. And the fact that Rachel and Deckert were allowed to get away at the end is no indicator. Neither is the comment ‘It’s too bad she won’t live, but then again who does?’ – that was just a comment about all of us, not Deckert.) Anyway, I think EJO said that about Deckert because he is hinting that one or more characters in BSG won’t know what they are (cylons I guess), even at death WE will know -afterwards, or before – but they (like Deckert) won’t ever know. Won’t even wonder at the possibility. Interesting…
I think what he said about Tighe is also a big clue, that Tighe never (’to the end’ in Eddie’s words) accepted he was a cylon in the whole entire series. So that is an interesting thing to consider as we move forward. We know he will always act as a human, act for the humans, won’t act for any unilateral cylon interests…etc.
Both EJO and AD seemed excited about the movie that will air after the series is over, and I am sure it will have a great storyline, but I am curious if it will fill in any real blanks or just be a good story…?
Sorry I didn’t see you guys – I looked!
I think FanExpo organizers deserve a swift kick in the ass for placing EJO and Brent Spiner in a tiny fracking room on Sunday. WTF????Kate Mulgrew on Saturday was in the masquerade room (seats 1500) – and of course she didn’t fill it – but everyone who wanted in, got in. Not so with Spiner or EJO, which sucks. Apparently the organizers didn’t want to pay for that room on Sunday. So they made more profit and some people who paid the Deluxe admission missed out. That is evil. Yah I know if you lined up early you got in to the small room but what would it have cost them to get the large hall for one more day so that everyone who wanted to could have had a good time and enjoyed Data and Adama? Greedy bastards!
On a related topic, Kate Mulgrew was amazing. Deep, down to earth, charming, intelligent, hilarious. Strong feminist for sure and way big enough to admit she was snarky over Paramount bringing in big boobs (7 of 9) to boost ratings and wasn’t as nice to Jerri Ryan has she should have been at first. Boobs aside, Janeway and Seven had an incredibly interesting and complex relationship: creator and monster, mother and daughter, friend and friend…and I am glad they had Seven on the show. Would it have been as good with another capable actress with small boobs? Of course!
Kate is all class and it was a real experience to hear her speak about life and being human. EJO and AD were great, but Kate’s talk was special. It brought tears to my eyes.

EJO is such a class act. His maturity as an actor has definitely been a defining character of the show itself and he has obviously been a defining mentor to those young actors around him. To hear him speak… actually hear him speak the word “heartbreaking” is almost too much to bear already. I’m not sure if I’m ready for what’s in store…what a journey this has been.
I so much wanted to go to the Expo but just couldn’t make it…by the way, when is the premier Matt? When, where, etc…Toronto? That’s a day’s drive but I’d love to see it and meet you and Nat. The movie looks awesome!
Just one more thing…is anyone planning a back half frak party? Just curious if it may or may not happen?

Hello, just wanted to say i think d anna is the fifth cylon of the final five , the missing 3 will give u the five they had 4 in the fleet she would make 5 amd she is seeking redemption she said that they will never forgive us for what we did to the colonies and she was in darkness in confusion she came in the confusion of destroying the hub after being boxed which would account for being in darkness from the bsg razor movie the hybrid said this.
thank you

Hey Guys, Nice to see new stuff on the site, and love the shirts. I was at comic-con with kevin smith and helo, apollo, starbuck, anders, six, baltar, Ron and Eick. It was so great but what we now know from what they have said, yes it is Earth, Yes it was nuked, The final Cylon is someone we know and have seen, no guest star business. The rest of season 4.5 is them resolving what to do next, The end will break our hearts, baltar and six get to shoot guns, starbuck finds peace, Ander won’t talk about what happens to him, and Helo(maybe joking) dies in a big firey crash. It was so cool and I loved seeing everyone and also everyone except Ron’s favorite scene is when the Galactica enters the atmosphere of New Caprica to save those left behind. Ron’s is “One Year Later”, he just loves to screw with our minds. Laters

YES! Oh, man, I had hoped most people would be killed off. It would be so freakin badass and gutwrenching. I just hope everyone goes out with a bang.

YIKES! So, I guess it is Earth….. Still not 100% convinced (Adama Earth Landing Sceptic). Heartwrenching? Yep, got that already, with the end of Season 4.
Thanks folks for another drip feed of BSG! It’s just the downer is such a bummer afterwards!

Wow, lots of info to chew on… and we’re only at the first posting of three… dang.
Did I hear EJO correctly when he said they couldn’t live there because of the radioactive conditions? That’s at 3:35 in the video: “Earth was devastated… We couldn’t even stay there”. That’d throw a wrench in most presuppositions. In that case, the despair of the destruction of the Colonies was only delayed until the much famed Earth was turned from imaginary myth to a real and shattered hope. That’ll get lots of discontent and rebellion riled up among humans and cylons alike. Will they stay there in the end even though it’s bordering on toxic for them to do so? Come to think of it… that ending IS worthy of Ron Moore’s affinity for twisted endings…
Then there’s the whole death business. We’ve got ~10 episodes to kill AT LEAST 2/3rds of the main cast. Let’s get one of the main players dead right away, wait two episodes, start knocking them off every other episode, with the endgame killing two or three an episode in the endgame. I bet the Galactica bites it in the end too – there’s been talk here and there about it looking more worse for wear as the season goes on. My question is about what the source of the fighting will be. People will die when the Cylons formerly under Cavil show up. People will die with the infighting that’ll happen beginning 6 hours after the arrival at Earth among the humans. People will die during Cylon-Human fighting as the alliance is strained. People will die when the Centurions rebel against the skinjobs (Raiders too?). However, RDM’s probably going to invent one or two other sources of massive death – I’m not sure what they’ll be. Thoughts?
The sheer randomness of the selection of the FC really throws a lot of wrenches in a lot of our thoughts, mine especially. I still want to see the imitation of the Greek Pantheon in the gender of the Cylons, whether or not they do anything with it, simply because it would be such an easy way for them to tap into that other part of that world (As I’ve argued before, this requires that the FC be female). However, if they were putting up pictures on the wall and thinking about different arrangements, I have trouble thinking that babies were being considered because babies can’t act. Hera can do those creepy things every now and then, but I don’t see RDM thinking that a young child would be capable of keeping up with the kind of twisted plot developments he would love. Being purely comical for a moment, just imagine how emotionally scaring it would be for a kid to try to handle the twisted mind of RDM…
Random aside on Kendra Shaw – I don’t think she’s a cylon, but it occurs to me that something would work better if she were: How did the old hybrid know her sins? He might have been able to tap into the Cylon data center to get access to that information. This would be a brilliant way of tying in that whole scene between her and the Hybrid with the prophecy, as well as getting the other things said about Starbuck out in the view of other characters. Having Shaw resurrect on Earth would make sense if the 5 are from Earth (something few people seem to consider for some reason), so we could run into her during the first episode. She’d certainly introduce fun and new dynamics for the last leg of the show – something I think would be fun. Anyways, I’m not counting on her, but this is a concept that makes sense.
Additional thought: If Ellen Tigh is the FC, she’d need to come back looking young again for the show to be consistent. Again, resurrection on Earth would make that easiest in terms of storytelling.
Oi, now to wait for the next ones.

Hey, Matt & Nat!
Quick question: Do you two go to premieres together? I saw your review of “Tropic Thunder” and just wondered if you both go to screenings with each other?
On another note, can’t wait for Part Deux of EJO’s Q&A. Please don’t keep us waiting too long.

TO SIGNA JADE:
Yes, I like what you said about Kendra Shaw being the possible FC. So many things point away from this being true, yet so many things SHOULD point to it as being true. Again, the significance of what the hybrid told her. Just WHY exactly did he say that he had been watching HER all of her life? What would be the relevance in putting that into the episode if it wouldn’t have some significance later on? Why even introduce her as a viable character in the first place, if she isn’t the FC? It makes no sense. And yeah, I don’t like the fact that the writers didn’t have things already “in place” from the beginning. It’s like they were writing off the cuff and tossing darts at names and faces as to who the FF would be. Makes me nervous a little, but then I’m sure the last few episodes will tie up some loose ends. Let’s hope.

Heya TRON82,
We try to go to premieres whenever there is one in Toronto, but more often than not, we’re just standing in line like everybody else to see the movies we’re excited about on opening night! But we pretty much always see them together.
And we’ll have Part 2 of EJO up on Tuesday, I think!
