BSGcast: Interview with Kandyse McClure

Everyone seems to have loved our interview with Mary McDonnell so much, that we decided to keep it up! So at DragonCon we managed to sit down and chat with a few more of the incredible actors that brought us some of the characters we know and love from BSG, to get a bit of insight into how they experienced the show from their perspective.

First up, Matt chatted with the beautiful and talented Kandyse McClure who played Anastasia Dualla for almost the entire run of the series… almost. So consider this your spoiler warning! From her thoughts on the growth of her character, to what she’s up to now, Kandyse gives us a great peek into what makes her, and Dee, tick!

OMG! She is so funny and cute! Haven’t thought that she is so cool, emotional and loling all the time… That must been a great moment for you Matt & Nat! Thanks for this!

  2. Mr.NiceGaius Says:

Dualla was a character, in the beginning, that could have easily fallen into “filler” were BSG in another’s hands (**AHEM** Brian Singer). Her character was small, very inconsequential. Suddenly, bits of life were given to her (attempted relationship with Billy). When she spoke her mind to Adama and talked him into “bringing the family back together”, it was emotional and cut to the core of BSG’s characters (it’s where Adama and Rosyln began to get closer and trusting of each other). Before her end, each of her screen-moments were golden.

Dualla’s last episode was heartbreaking because her innocence and truth-of-character were now gone and Galactica’s crew was now in a tailspin of desperation and disillusionment. Her loss was felt moreso off-screen by the viewers.

Kandyse proved to me she is not only a great actor but an extremely sexy one. I hope to see her in larger productions to showcase her depth of character/acting/hot looks.

On another note, it would have been cool if all the BSGCasts were included on the blu-ray sets. Years from now, when my son watches them, we could review the casts after each episode. (I’ll still do that as long as these videos stay posted forever.)

@Rob: Yeah, don’t you just love her laugh? She’s a delight to chat with!

@Mr.NiceGaius: I agree! I’ve always had her on the short list of casting choices, myself, she’s a wonderful talent. And don’t worry, we’ll keep these videos available for your son to watch in years to come. And if you ever have a hard time finding them you can always call or e-mail me!

Hey guys! Once again, a great interview! You guys did a great job and she looked to be a pure joy to have in the hot seat. Thanks for keeping the flame alive and giving us all so much to enjoy here!

  5. Ned Garcia-Mathews Says:

Mat and Nat..As always thanks for the interview. Kandyse is really hot and was shocked when her character died.

  6. CB2001 Says:

Awesome as always, Matt and Nat. Great to see Kandyse on the “set”. :D Now, I wonder who’ll turn up next.

  7. Adam Says:

Guys that was incredible! I love that she hasn’t watched anything past when she left the show. It would be cool if you got another interview with her after she’s seen the final episodes and finale. I have always found Kandyse was very in tune and directive of her alter ego. She did a magnificent job in bringing Dualla to life and making her a deep character that really helped some major plot points along. Her exit was tragic both on screen and off as we lost a beloved character and the show lost just that much more depth of character with her loss.

Matt and Nat, this was a great interview. I am so thankful to have found you guys a few years ago. This site has done nothing but totally enhance my BSG experience. I’ll be looking forward to the other interviews and your review of 4.5 (finally?). LOL!

  8. Pavlov's God Says:

I’ve never seen an interview with Kandyse but she was great and seems like a fun, down to earth person. Looking back I wish she would have put on Billy’s class ring just before she killed herself to tie in the first two seasons. Billy loved her whereas Lee settled for her. It would have been nice to show that Billy was her true love also.

Matt and Nat, BSG is off the air but you continue to surprise us.

  9. Frak Yeah! Says:

Excellent interview, even if it did make me sad again. She was totally flirting with Matt, btw.

  10. Tootie Says:

THANKS MATT AND NAT – and KANDYSE!!
She’s very talented. I know she took it really hard not to be there for the ending shooting. And for some reason, she missed the last cast party, so that’s very sad for her. It will always be emotional for her to look part at that series. I am happy they recognized the potential of the character and the actress – but it doesn’t surprise me…almost every one of the actor choices in this series were amazing. Just one wasn’t.

  11. Ian Says:

OH come on Tootie. Which one? Which one?? :)

  12. BSGcast Says:

    Hey!
I’m so glad to hear you guys have been enjoying these interviews we’ve been getting. It’s been weird not doing these weekly episodes and getting a constant BSG fix. But these interviews have been hitting the spot! I can’t wait for you to see what we have coming up the next few weeks! (and yes, including a 4.5 DVD review!)

@Frak Yeah!: What?! She was flirting with my man? :) Haha it’s hard not to, he’s so damn charming for a geek!

@Tootie: I’m totally echoing Ian on this one “which one??” I’m curious now. Don’t say Gaeta!!:D
