Season 4.0 on DVD – January 6 2009

The U.S. release date for the first half of Season 4 is now officially January 6, 2009. So I guess we’re back to buying the season piece-meal like we did for Season 2. If that doesn’t burn your bacon at least a little, Razor (both aired and longer DVD cuts) will be included. So congrats on buying a copy last November just like we did :P

We’ll be getting deleted scenes, Ron’s PodCasts, Eick’s videoBlogs, a series of featurettes with some ominous names like “Cylons: The Twelve” and “Season 4.5: The Untold Story – Untold” as well as a commentary on the extended edit of Razor.

Since there never was a full version of Season 2.0 and 2.5 like some of us speculated, it’s a pretty safe bet that this will be the definitive version of the front 10 episodes of Season 4, so it’s a must have for the collection. Just try and sell last year’s Razor DVD on eBay before everyone else figures it out!

So I have to buy 4.0 then 4.5 then the tele-movie(s). Then they’ll most likely have a box set of the series – with the new movie(s) and some sort of extras to make you want it – ie. new improved special effects. Then after that you’ll have to start over re-buy everything in blueray. I’m just glad I didn’t buy the $75 HD-DVD per season version since that format is going out.

Why don’t they come out with everything in blue ray so I won’t have to buy it again. – I think I just answered my own question

  2. ninjadude Says:

It still seems a little unusual that the international regions receive the DVD’s first. Granted the Region 2 for season 3 did not have any extras, but this time the season 4 dvd does have the deleted scenes and other little videos. So it seems the region one release is delayed purely to put the David Eick blogs on, and a couple of 4.5 trailers. I don’t think I’ll understand the way it’s marketed.

No luck selling Razor in the UK since Play.com sells it for £5 already, but really I’ll just give the spare copy to someone else.

  3. Adam Says:

I have a copy of this cool movie called Razer…it’s about some robots that fight the humans. It’s very similar to this other movie I saw last year called hmmm, Razor perhaps? Anyways I’ll sell it to you for $15! :)

  4. Shiver Says:

We might have to wait longer to see things in England, but we did get a full season 2 box.
    Silver linings and all that…

  5. gaseous clay Says:

wow, that sucks. I feel like i’m being fleeced.

  6. Adalla Says:

Give your Razor DVDs away as gifts to friends! Spread the BSG love ;)

Then you wont have 2 Razor DVDs ;)

  7. Adam Says:

Fleeced like an Aerolon sheep herder….

  8. CB2001 Says:

Actually, over at the Sci-Fi BBoard, I’ve proposed something that not many people have: I have asked a question about what we should do, especially those who have already spent the money for “Razor”. Hopefully, we may all agree and see if Universal can do something for us in relation to “Razor” (either removing “Razor” off the Season 4.0 boxset, give us a coupon for another Universal movie on DVD for the same price as we paid for it, a trade-in of the DVD we bought for a BSG-related gift/item or do absoluting nothing, get nothing in return and pay for something we’ve already paid money for before). You can check out the post/poll here: http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?showtopic=2316565

  9. JJ Says:

Meh, it was bound to happen again. I guess I’ll just wait for the Blu-ray seasons to come out now. lol

Check out this link for some deleted scenes, if you haven’t seen them yet: http://io9.com/5060839/7-deleted-scenes-from-galacticas-fourth-season-answer-some-burning-questions

I would be even more excited if there was a BSG 4.0 soundtrack coming out at the same time.

  10. DarthRazorback Says:

I am so angry that I spent $20 for something I am getting again! How dare they make me pay $20?! I mean, sure, I spend $20 a day on comfort food that I receive a few minutes of pleasure from, but I am going to get really dramatic about spending $20 on a disc I watched 20 times and will receive again when I purchase season 4.0. Argh! Ooooh! Sooooo angry!

    P.S.

I am not actually buying any version of BSG until they come out on Blu-Ray.

  11. Mario Says:

I’d like to complain, but if you’d been a fan from the beginning and bought the miniseries dvd plus the box set, you’d have the same problem. I only wonder if they’re going to do the same thing with the next movie, The Plan, or whatever it’s called.

  12. Sarah Says:

Well I can tell you that people in Europe (Belgium for that matter) are being screwed over by Universal too.
First, in 2006 a broadcasting station called VT4 aired season 1 of BSG on sunday nights, 10:00 PM. So every working person taped the show. Then, a magazine soled season 2 for the price of € 30 (that’s about 40 US dollar) which was nice.

In august 2008, Universal finally decided to bring season 3 on the market, for the ridiculous expensive price of € 40. The highly anticipated expensive season is, of course, not selling well. Now, stores are advertising Razor, but when I went to at least 4 stores yesterday, I couldn’t find a copy anywhere. They weren’t soled out, they just weren’t selling it yet because the DVD hasn’t arrived yet!

I’m frakking p*ssed! At the broadcasting station that keeps on airing endless re-runs of Friends, instead of season 2 of BSG like they should be doing. And I’m p*ssed at Universal for their frakked up descision making. The only reason I’m not buying the UK versions is because my father doesn’t speak English and there aren’t any subtitles on the UK version. Frak!

  13. Pavlov's God Says:

Check out The Office this week. Funny Battlestar Galactica moment. Apparently BSG is really about has someone named dumbledorf Calrisian. It’s at 12:58 if you want to check it out on nbc.com

  14. DarthRazorback Says:

Yeah, it is not the first time BSG has been mentioned on The Office. But that was the longest BSG bit yet. Though, it wasn’t really about BSG… unless BSG has wookiees and wizards. ;)

  15. kirsty Says:

I’ve never been sure why anyone would buy half a season’s dvd set. Why not wait until the season is over and get the whole season dvd. Or better yet. Wait until the series is over and get the box set. Man that Ronald moore knows how to make cash.

  16. DarthRazorback Says:

RDM is the producer not the director of marketing. He does not make these decisions.

  17. Kirsty Says:

LOL Whatever. You know what I mean.

  18. Pavlov's God Says:

I don’t believe RDM makes much or any money from DVDs – Universal does. I remember in a commentary track (maybe razor) them mentioning DVD sales and how that is out of their control. He’s not the evil mastermind George Lucas is – not yet.

  19. Kirsty Says:

LOL You guys know what I mean. For christs sake. Whoever makes the desicions is smart… That’s all I’m saying. LOL

  20. Adam Says:

Just for the record…RDM told “Hollywood Insider” last year when questioned about DVD decisions:

“It is a network decision – the DVDs are the concern of the studio. It is not the same people making those decisions. The network doesn’t care about the DVD.”

  21. Kirsty Says:

hahaha this is too funny. Forget I said anything at all. hahaha Can’t… stop… laughing….

  22. Adam Says:

Kirsty…I’ve known you for a while on here and I am fond of you…please understand that what I posted wasn’t to insult you or further any arguments so please don’t take it personally…it was just to provide facts on the subject… :)

My personal feeling is yes, while it’s smart business-wise for Universal to fleece the BSG faithful (just cause they know we’ll buy it in 2 sets) it isn’t smart for the long term BSG universe. What happens when it finally becomes available on Hi Def? Are they gonna expect us to pay $80 a half season then too? If so I won’t buy it…

  23. Pavlov's God Says:

Darn it Kristy! Just say that you are wrong and all of us are right so we can be done with this.

    Say it!!!

    Say it!!!!!!

  24. Kirsty Says:

I bow to the masters. You were right!!!! You were right!!!! But more importantly… I was wrong… so very, very wrong!!!!!
hahaha you guys are too funny.

  25. Adam Says:

    Kirsty,

We love you! :) Seriously, that’s why I posted to you. One is never wrong for giving their opinion…that’s why it’s an opinion! LOL! The big picture here is that NBC Universal is hosing us! Damn dirty apes!

  26. rogerthealien Says:

Hold on are you saying that 4.0 DVD of BSG isn’t out till the new year in the states? How strange its already out here in Ireland & the UK came out a few weeks ago, I’m holding it in my hands right now, a nice shinny sliver box with a lovely picture of Number Six on it :)

Just wish I know it had Razor on it I could of traded my old one for it oh will, guess I just go watch some season 4 BSG on DVD then ;)

    Love & kisses!!!

  27. Mario Says:

Well you might be holding it, but the US version will have the extras that the UK doesn’t have.

  28. Mario Says:

Oh, and update for the show to come back is January 16th, 2009 at 10pm Scifi and is set to end by the end of March (March 20th was reported). That was all from EW.

  29. Tootie Says:

You all should watch those deleted scenes that JJ links to above. They are really cool, especially the first one.
And the second, with Lee and Kara, makes me SO want them to be together and happy at the end….I hope I am not too heartbroken by the series ending, but I know I will be.
Does anyone know what I’m saying, when I say here that I am afraid the ending, good and logical and right in all ways that it will no doubt be, will make it very hard and painful to go back and watch the whole series again, as we will no doubt do many times in our lifetimes. I am saying, it’s good to go back and rewatch now, but god, when you know who dies and who lives and who the final cylon is, it’s going to kinda suck watching the whole thing, knowing how it ends, and how it was all a flash in some kind of cosmic pan, their lives, their struggles…
but true of our lives as well.
    Tootie

  30. rogerthealien Says:

Oh yes it dose Mario, have all the deleted senses & the extra copy of razor :) ………..So only another 3 months to wait oh joy!!!

  31. Mario Says:

Does it really have all of the features we have? Hmm… Oh well. Well our covers are better. However, I wish one cover did not have Six on it.

  32. rogerthealien Says:

Ok you win with the covers :D , Why with the wishing Mario?

  33. Mario Says:

Well I was hoping on one of the season 4 dvd sets that they would have the last supper picture on it (maybe fully on 4.5). Of course Six would be on that one too I guess. But since the show is Battlestar Galactica, I think one box set should have the Galactica on it.

  34. Maria Sunderland Says:

Tootie: I agree with you. I just don’t understand why they never included that scene. It explained quite a few questions about Head Six.

  35. DarthRazorback Says:

BSG returns on 16 January, 2009. 10 weeks with no pause between.

  36. Pavlov's God Says:

Anyone know when the webisodes start or what they will be about?

  37. Mario Says:

Well I think they are going to do ten of them leading up to the second half preimer, and by my calendar it puts the webisodes starting on November 7th. But, I guess we’ll have to see.

  38. Adam Says:

I have been emailing and phoning everyone I know (some cast members and SciFi execs included) and no one knows squat about them …yet. ;)

  39. RCM Says:

“The Face of the Enemy” airs next month! Oh yeah, apparently it reveals Gaeta and Hoshi to be gay.
