This Just In: Season 4 = 22 Episodes!

As seen on Sci-Fi Wire:

March 21, 2007

SCI FI Channel has increased its episode order for the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica to 22 from the original 13, including a special two-hour extended episode that will air during the fourth quarter of this year and be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment thereafter. SCI FI made the announcement at its upfront press event in New York on March 21.

Battlestar Galactica will air its season-three finale on March 25 in its regular Sunday 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. Production will begin on the new season in May, with an eye to an early 2008 premiere.

Plus, they way we hear it, the “two-hour extended episode” will be dealing with the Pegasus in the immediate wake of the Cylon attack on the Colonies. Groovy, more Cain, and at her blood-thirstiest, no less!

First off, cool beans on being able to get 22 episodes

Well, I managed to come across spoilers for last week’s and this upcoming episode. Needless to say, I already know certain details (like what the vote in Baltar’s trial will be and whatnot), but I won’t spill them.

Anyways, Matt, I do believe that your theory does have a valid point. Not too long ago, I made a post over at the Ragnar Anchorage forums and the BSG forums at SciFi.com that sort of adds to what you suggest. Though it’s more in relation to the “All of this has happened before, all of it will happen again” mentality of the show, but it is clear with what you suggested in the “Crossroads, Part 1″ cast is possible and clearly involves the “all happened before=all will happen again” mentality of the show. However, what I suggested actually contradicts a majority of what you were suggesting. Anyways, here’s the original post I made both at Ragnar Anchorage and the BSG SciFi board

    ——————-Original Post——————–
This is a really odd thought, but something crossed my mind when I was re-watching “Valley of Darkness”. I apologize if anyone has brought this up before. Everyone knows the saying, “It’s all happened before, and it will all happen again.” Six in Baltar’s head clearly says this after he wakes up from the Adama drowning baby nightmare. I know this is going to sound strange, but I think the “it” has already happened again.

Think about it: We do not know what it was that drove humanity from Kobol. We do see evidence that there was a massive slaughter there in addition to that (from the remains found by Baltar).

Now, look at Leoban and what he said to Kara in “Flesh and Bone” while she was torturing him: “Maybe once I was the torturer.” (or something along those lines). And that “the players change, the situation’s the same.”

I think that what New Caprica happened on Kobol. The “second exodus” from New Caprica had humans drastically fleeing from a planet, with some being killed and a small number being left behind in the process (and also being killed too). Ironically, Leoban was also right about the torture/torturer cycle, too. Leoban pretty much switched roles at torturing Starbuck, but the means were different. In addition to this, Sharon (Athena) helped get the launch keys for the ships on New Caprica. In “Home, Part 2″, she said that “Athena threw herself down on the rocks…” (I can’t remember the whole line) Needless to say, Athena went down, according to the history. Now, people know the term “third rock from the sun”, as a means of labeling our planet Earth. So, in the case of the second exodus, Sharon went down to the planet. Only shortly after did she get the callsign Athena. So, to put it in context, “Athena threw herself down the the rocks” could possibly mean that “Sharon went down to the planet”. (I know, it’s a huge stretch, but it’s something I couldn’t help but notice).

So, what happened on New Caprica may be what had happened with Kobol. Of course, this is just a thought. I could be wrong.

So to clarify what CB2001 is seeming to suggest, humanity fled Earth from the proto-cylons/terminators, settled on Kobol, and then fled to the colony worlds when the proto-cylons caught up with them. And the wheel of time turns, and memory passes into legend, and legend into myth, and what once was and is forgotten comes again anew.

  4. Jack G. Says:

I, for one, wouldn’t mind an ending to the story at the conclusion of Season 4. This is television people, and look at what happened to Star Trek over the various series’ runs. How many stories of “Enterprise” were retreads of stories on “Voyager”, which were themselves retreads of earlier ST series.

All heavily-arc based shows can’t go on forever. JMS of Babylon 5 knew the beginning and ending of the story at the beginning, and knew it would take 5 years to tell, even though he had to compress it at one point when year 5 was heavily in doubt.

BSG is this same type of story. If you drag it out too long, it just becomes a lot of filler which will lose people who are interested in the story in the first place.

I would rather look at BSG like JMS said to look at B5. There is nothing quite like the feeling of putting the last volume of the series back on the shelf when you finish it, and you sigh in satisfaction over the whole story that was just right in length. You then move on to something else, because we can only pay attention for so long.

    Just my two cents.

    Jack

There was a wind…. it wasn’t the beginning, but it was a beginning… libRLmeh– Just wanted to let you know somebody got your WoT reference!! I’m glad someone else sees the parallels.

although it causes me much pain, I must aggree with Jack G

thus far RDM and company have gotten eveything else right. I hope they achieve the great ride off into the sunset

I, of one, will be left lovingly staring at my box sets with fond memoires of the days of bloodysweat agony waiting for the next episode

    BTW, is it Sunday yet?

  7. V Says:

I just asked Jamie Bamber about the 2 extra episodes coming Fall 2007, and he said that at this point even the regular cast didn’t know any much more about it than we the fans do: I asked if the rumor that it was a “Pegasus flashback” episode showing Admiral Cain post-Cylon attack were true, and he said that that was the rumor spreading amongst the cast as well: that it will be Pegasus and the regular cast would be “glorified guest stars” in comparison.

I have to get back to work…..

    Pleased to meet you/
    hope you guessed my name/
    but what’s puzzling you/

  8. Elle Says:

@CB -> I think New Caprica Happened before, but not on Kobol

The Way I see it is that Kobol is like the 12 Colonies There is an exodus and then they settle on a new planet ( New Caprica or the Algea Plaent with the temple of five) The alge planet is refered to as “the original settlement of the 13th tribe”, and some version of the cylons existed there since the final five were “revealed”. My guess would be that something akin to New Caprica occured on the Algea Planet and not Kobol.

  9. Max Peck Says:

LMAO… fraking right!… but think, it’s now only 39 more weeks till the next new episode…(was 40…)

  10. Opa Jeph Says:

There is only approximately 37.5 more weeks to go until Season 4 (provided that BSG will be returning on Sunday, January 6, 2008).

  11. Fraking wait Says:

Why no one is talking about president Roslin being the final 1, its so clear, she feels sick when the power go down in the final episode, in the right moment that the others cylons are revealed. And what about her attitude about Gaius….. She wants the choosen one dead!!!!
Gaius will save humanity at the end.

Well, cant wait to prove my point in the final season.
