Variety: Caprica Series is a GO!

We had originally heard that NBC/Universal would be waiting to see how the ratings for the pilot movie turned out, but it looks like we’re getting an early Christmas present: a Greenlight on the Caprica series!

Production is set to begin in the middle of 2009 in Vancouver, with the plan to have the series hit TV’s in early 2010 with the same core of writers that brought us our beloved Battlestar Galactica!

Take a look at what Variety had to say today at Variety.com!

So it looks like our Capricast has a Greenlight now, too!

That’s awesome news, Matt & Nat!

Thanks for that bit of 411. :)
Great to know that after BSG is gone, we’ll still have some great television to look forward to, especially since the same writers are attached to the Caprica series! I’m certain this series will be just as riveting and just as successful. ;)

I’m not sure just yet what I think of Caprica. I don’t know how they’ll make it interesting without screwing up the timeline somehow! The preview I saw for it a few months ago (on this website, I think) filled me with deep misgivings. Dead daughter bla bla bla robot copy bla bla bla… If that happened fifty years ago how in the world is anyone surprised by biologic machines in present BSG time? I’ll gladly give the series a chance – as far as I’m concerned the BSG writers are brilliant! But there’s a danger in doing prequels – as George Lucas could probably attest – and that’s screwing things up so badly that it diminishes the previous films. And as long as I’m feeling cranky – I also don’t know how I feel about the olden-timey look of the series, or that the Adamas go by Adams.

I feel slightly weird saying that, because I’m kinda looking forward to the Star Trek prequel. Maybe because I’m not as invested, and not as concerned with backstory being meddled with (and potentially ruined)? Anyway, that’s enough crankiness for now!

This is great news. Of course 2010 seems like forever away…but then again so did Jan.16th…

I’m sure many people have a lot of misgivings about the story of Caprica. All I can say is we need to trust RDM again to give us something new and intriguing. I am very curious as well about the possibilities of the skin jobs existing for thousands of years but Graystone “creates” the first skin job? Hmmmm, that is puzzling indeed.

Good news because I know on some sites that there were doubts to Caprica coming out fully. I am very excited to see how this show plays out, yet a little afraid that it will not do well. 2010?! Ugh! We’ll see though, eh? However, I hope it doesn’t ruin the BSG timeline and back-story. I don’t know, we’ll see.

You know, looking at some links and reading further about the Caprica series, I am hopeful but not overconfident that I will be just as glued to my T.V. set as I was (and still am) to BSG. And I realize why…..the ACTORS. I am definitely going to miss seeing EJO, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, James Callis, and the rest of the stellar cast that I’ve come to REALLY enjoy watching. The chemistry and camaraderie they all had will no doubt be unmatched.

The Caprica series will serve to perhaps answer many of our questions, but that other element, that element of excellent casting that makes a show a GREAT, may indeed be missing. But again, here’s hoping….

    Yeah. Webisodes start next week!!!!!!

SCI FI Channel told SCI FI Wire that it’s going to premiere the first of 10 new Battlestar Galactica webisodes on SCIFI.COM on Dec. 12, and we also obtained an exclusive screenshot showing the Gaeta “kiss” moment reported on Ain’t It Cool News and other online sources.

SCI FI would not confirm or deny any details “that two male characters will be outed and indulge in a full-on make-out session,” but it’s clear here that Lt. Felix Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani) and Lt. Hoshi (Brad Dryborough) from the Pegasus are definitely doing something.

The 10 webisodes, entitled “The Face of the Enemy,” tell a story that takes place between seasons 4.0 and 4.5 of Battlestar and follow Lt. Gaeta when he is sent off in a Raptor with a handful of strangers and one of them mysteriously dies. The psychological human-vs.-Cylon struggle is played out in the restrictive confines of a Raptor as everyone is a suspect, and paranoia sets in among the group. Grace Park and Michael Hogan also star.

I know you guys are busy and all, but…I think you guys should do a cast like a week before the beginning to the end is here (that’s what I’m calling it), analyzing the clues and webisodes. I have theories, but I love to here what you two think. I don’t know. Just a thought.

  8. BSGcast Says:

We’re actually planning to do a lead-up episode to talk about all the clues, websites and goodies as well as the webisodes that are pre-premiere! So watch for that one to come your way in Early January… call it a late Christmas Present from the both of us ;)

  9. Josh Says:

You guys should talk about your own opinions of who the final cylon will be, what destroyed Earth, and what you think the ending will be about.

  10. Mario Says:

Well, that makes me excited that you guys will be doing a BSGcast. It has been so long, for the cast and the actual show. There are so many promos/previews for 4.5 (I think more than 4.0) and it has me geeking out to everyone I know, even if they don’t watch the show (I keep trying to recruit, and so far I recruited three more fans).
